...thats what the bodyshops down here seem to do. :S

I have been looking at getting some bits on the VR done after they werent done very well last year. Since my old bodyshop packed up and left the country about a month after 'finishing' my car i cant go back to get it repaired, so im trying to source another one. *-)

Anyhoo, i have so far tried three well known companies in the area and this is what i was quoted for doing:

- two doors

- bootlid

- roll rear arches.

1) £300 Cash

2) £500 Cash

3) wait for it...£1407.65

Now i do wonder how bodyshops work out the price. Before getting quotes i thought £300-£350 would be a fair price....

What do you guys think *-)

Dont forget, they will blow the doors in to the other pannels too etc... so its not just the door, bootlid your getting charged for.

I would say they would paint the doors only and then polish the other pannels to match... Spent 2 year in a body shop.. £300 sounds abit to cheep but £500 sounds about right.. You having the glass out on the tail gate?

I've got a mate who is awesome - he rebuilds and restores mk1&mk2 escorts as he loves them.

I'm picking my car up tomorrow off him after he's:

rolled the arches,

sprayed and fitted new front grill

fixed front lights and sprayed

painted calipers yellow

plastic welded a plate on rear bumper

smoothed front and rear bumpers using fibreglass and sprayed

sorted some rust on one of my sills

debadge the tailgate and removed spoiled welding plates etc and smoothed plus sprayed

Body coloured door handles

Sprayed rear blistered arches

Then finally gone over car touching up anyway he think needs and and bluffing a wax finish :-)

Lol - Point being all that was £700 + £120 for a new rear window.

So yes you can get bargains but make sure they are by good people.

If you want to come up to south wales i'm sure i could get him 2 do you a good deal?? He is sh*t hot 2

Just to let you know the £120 was for the glass company to remove old glass and supply and fit new one aswel. If you need the number let me know??

So are you leaving the spoiler on as there are 3 holes in the glass if you wanted to take it off... thats why I had the pay the £120 aswel

The tailgate only needs sanding back and respraying, The quality of work is good as he showed me two of the cars that had just been finished. Put it this way, it cant be any worse than what it looks like @ the moment.

If you get a too good to be true price always make sure to ask exactly what you're getting... there's a big difference between a good price and a cheap job

Yeah i know that all to well now. Ive had the Wiper arm and badge removed from the rear, The welding and smoothing job was a good one, just the spraying was crap.

You should speak too my mate Mrgreygolf on swdubs, he is a sprayer by trade and a very good one at that you only have too look at the quality of his mk 2
