VR6Steve 0
Whatever you choose, I would also suggest a Disklock (about £80 from Halfords). They fully cover the steering wheel and even have a Thatcham rating. They supposedly take a while to get off, so will make your car that little bit more unattractive to the opportunist car thief. mk3anni 0
Something physical, like a Disklock as mentioned by Steve, and a decent alarm.I run a clifford and rate it very highly. Thing to remember with any alarm is its only ever as good as the installation.

six appeal 53
Full closure Cat 1 on mine and Snap-off steering wheel! When I first got it a few years back had my garage done a few times (causing £800 of damage) but car was never touched as I think they must've given up any hope of taking it without the steering wheel! acf8181 0
q about snap off's...is there anything to stop the boss off when you've taken the wheel off? otherwise they could just get hold of an o.e. wheel and swap the wheels quickly.

You can still undo them, easily and not prepared to point out how on a public forum! Plus I have changed all the bolts on mine to be really long ones so would take a while if they can even get them started as I have added a couple of other little things to stop them doing this! mk3anni 0
arnt full closue alarms NOT cat 1 any more i thought i read the basterds changed itNews to me. All the new cat 1 cliffords have total close, so I would think that isn't the case.
dubloke 4
they have changed the regs concerning which alarms are now classified as cat one, some of which used to be but no aren't, but most cat one have or can be total closure. i had the problem with my clifford alarm so now have a second seperate cat 2 immobiliser as well ,as the alarm itself does what it needs to ,and no point shelling out for a newer one that does exactly the same thing! Nerih 0
I'm still looking to replace a cat1 alarm i have on the highline, my car doesnt start 1st time round, you have to unlock it, lock and unlock it before the immobiliser decides...'you are now allowed to drive your car'.I installed my Mk2 alarm myself and then got it thatcham approved by my local alarm specialist, its so much better when you do it yourself becuase you can easily fault find.Infact my vr's door pins have problems closing when locking using central locking. I had no idea it was vacuum driven until i heard my pump whining away...must be a leak on the passenger side .
