Apparently mineral oil starts to break down at temps of much more than 100 degrees C.

Fully synth. can run a bit hotter.

My Golf sits around the 100 mark on the motorway.

I had a 'charged VR Corrado last year that regularly ran oil temps up to 140 plus on trackdays. Just changed the oil after every outing and everything was dandy!

An oil cooler wouldn't have been a bad idea, however!

Synthetic oil is good for at least 150'c before it begins to shear.

think about it in regard to turbocharged engines and the turbo core temps - way past 100'c.

I really dont see why everyone gets so worked up about the 100-110'c mark - good oil is more than capable of handling these temps.

Pete.
