SUNDAY 15th JULY

LONDON VOLKSFEST (Inc. RWYB)

Venue: North Weald Airfield

Nr Harlow, Essex (M11 J7)

VOLKSFEST2007.jpg

Introducing Volksfest . . . one of the most popular of the original 'new wave’ of VW events, Volksfest was actually the first show to be run in association with Volksworld Magazine, which is celebrating its 20th birthday this year. Volksfest has always celebrated all things VW, never including any major content which was not 100% VW oriented. The show made a massive leap forward last year, with the return after many years of VW Drag Racing, in the form of a ‘Run What You Brung’ meeting, which permits visitors with their driving licence and the signing on fee, to run their own vehicle. Without losing the focus on VWs, it was fantastic to see Bugs and Golfs alongside all-comers, from early Fords to Rolls Royces, on the dragstrip. This year the formula will be much the same, with the dragstrip, the superb Show ‘N’ Shine, with classes for both Aircooled and Watercooled VWs, The Traders, Autojumble, Cars for Sale, Bar and Food Area, Club Displays, in fact everything needed for a hugely enjoyable VW day out. As usual the Autojumble pitches are free, the Show ‘N’ Shine is free to enter, you can enter on the day with no hassle, provided you turn up before entries close (judging starts at midday). The Top Ten Aircooled, Top Ten Watercooled system, which includes a Best of Show for each, has been developed as the fairest way of rewarding effort and excellence. Please don’t let the idea that you may not win stop you entering. It is free, and as far as we are concerned, the more the merrier! The signing of fee for unlimited runs on the track will again be £15, sign on and race a 'Yank' - it’s good to see a smug smile wiped from the face of a V8 owner now and then.

Regarding the RWYB:

Because the track has no barriers and is edged with ( after all the recent rain ) soft grass, if you lose control rolling is a risk, so all cars are inspected for loose items before your are allowed to run and a helmet needs to be worn by all drivers. SO, IF YOU HAVE A HELMET BRING IT.

( from last years thread )

"Hi folks,

Pre fest meeting if you can make it from 8am @ McDonalds car park Jct 7 on the M11/A414, for the last little cruise up!

We need to be on the display for 9, so i plan to be there from abouts 800(ish) & will be hangin around till 830. "

From experiance, the MaccyDee is hiding behind a travel lodge type place on the first road off the roundabout when coming up the north bound slip road. If coming south, it's still the first turning after the north bound slip road *-)
