What to check first?

My old VR6 which is now my brothers is using petrol or LPG at the rate of about £50 to go 60 miles! Having sat in the car and listened to the engine it is clearly misfiring. 2 garages have told him the mixtures on petrol and gas are way out when they've analysed them, we'll Duh! if it's misfiring of course they are! It's doing a neat party trick of spitting neat fuel straight out the exhaust (even more impressive if it would ignite on exit!) Obvious things to check are leads/plugs and coilpack, what else could be causing it and are there any quick ways to track down which cylinders are not firing as VAG Com shown nothing?

to see what cylinders are not firing pull 1 lead off at a time you should notice the engine note change and the engine rpm drop . if it does not thats the cylinder not firing . then get a old plug see if ya have a spark

lambda sensor would mess up the mixture
