matth76 1
Approx 90deg C is the normal oil temp. Normally takes around 15 mins driving to reach this (slightly longer in colder weather). It may be around 88deg in recent colder weather. In hotter weather low to mid 90's is normal. It can reach 100 if you're doing motorway driving. The main thing to make sure you do is do not take your car over 3000-3500 revs during the 15-20 mins warm up period until it reaches the 90 deg oil temp. If the engine's revved hard all the time when its not properly warmed up the life of the engine (as with any performance car) is dramatically reduced if done regularly. Low 80's is not the normal operating oil temp... unless the car is fitted with an oil cooler of some kind.
alfy 7
my car sits at 94 deg C most of the time. 1998 vr6 with 67000 miles on the clock think this is normal.
EmkayVR6 0
mine runs at about 92-96 most the time but has started goin up recently and got as high as 106 after an enthusiastic drive but think my headgasket is leaking so thats probably why its started gettin higher
kalv 0
If it's any use, mine is running around 100+.. my oil cooler pipe (that comes of the main water rail) has split so have fitted a temporary hose and blocked the other end up... spoke to a garage and he said the engine should be ok as alot of cars don't have oil coolers.. gavinvr6 0
ok thats a releif, im sure it was in my owners instruction manual that i read it, i wanna change the oil anyway and will prob flush the oil cooler clean with some cheap oil to ensure its not choked up or nothing while im at it
Eat this 2
mine sits at around 80 with normal drivingbut this is a knock on effect from tyhe lower temp thermostat

Whytee 0
What would you class as caining? On Motorway driving my new VR has been sitting at 100 at 80, droped to 96 if i go down to 70, but my last one was always high 80's low 90's at those speeds. So this is a bit higher, do you think an oil change would help here, or is this ok?
