How to remove lacquer from rims

Recommended Posts

Basically how do i do it, got some split rims which for now will remain nameless but the outer rims have some chips in the clear lacquer, so whats the best way to remove it and re polish the rims up??

Any info is hugely appreciated as i need to get this done for ultimate dubs

I tried nitromors and couldnt get it to work too well! And do you not have to scrpae it off? Not great if you are wanting to polish after. I used a polishing kit that I bought. Takes a wee while though. But all polishing is giong to. GOt my kit from polishingkitsuk or something original like that.

I used nitromos to remove old laquer, yes you scrape it off but it lifts the laquer and with no effort you can scrape it off without any damage occuring. Makes the job so much easier.

Likewise, i then used a polishing kit from the same company.

It will take laquer off but doesnt work very well on the wheel paint

If you use enough and leave it on for long enough you can scrape it off with something plastic so as not to mark the alloy

Once you've applied Nitromors put whole wheel in a bin bag, or if you can get hold of any shrink wrap used for pallets wrapping works well.

By wrapping it up, it stops the air drying it to quickly. Then unwrap and start scraping it off. I found using a plastic card (i.e. old credit card, Tesco club card) worked very well. Just cut the edge of the card you've been scarping with when it starts to get blunt.

Then rinse of with a jet wash and re-apply if it all hasn't come off.
