madmonkee 0
i have recently changed air filters and a few other things, I have found that I have lost about 10hp minimum. I went from a none filtering ViperX ramair induction system to a cone type system. Now the cone really filters well so more restrictive up top end. Now is this because its sucking in to much hot air?? Its not a shielded cone as yet, and it has only 1 80mm cold air feed to it. If i section it off, and give it another source of cold air will the power pick back up? Also, I have changed the rubber boot thingy for a mandrel bent s/steel one. The cone is on the end of that, now by making the distance from the cone to the boot longer/shorter effect the power/torque of the engine? Should I go for a longer intake rather than a short one?? No one likes losing power, but no one like there engine burning dirt and shite from a wanky airfilter.... help
binliner 0
Surely the piperx viper has a piperx foam filter in it?Does the stainless steel tube between the throttle body and cone filter get hot?[ Edited Fri Jul 02 2004, 03:12PM ]
madmonkee 0
it does yes, but it lets through way to much dirt and stuff, we are talking little stones at the MAF side. And a bootfull of oily dirt. havent checked if it gets hot, but surely it aint gonna get as hot as a rubber one?
binliner 0
I wouldve thought a metal one would get hotter... but I could be wrong
madmonkee 0
it ran the same when i had the viper on there, but now with the cone, it struggles about 5500rpm. Anythinh to do with the shortening of the distance between the cone and MAF?
Eat this 2
sounds daft but check ur oil level if it drops too much the engine manegement dropps the rev limiter and decreases the power its worth a go
madmonkee 0
ive had that before its not that, it a definate airflow problem. As in my mpg on the same run i had done b4 I went from 34.1 to 30.1mpg. New filter is definatly either getting to much hot air or its the wrong length.
VR6Pete 1,455
reset ur ECU, so it can re-calculate the air side of things...
binliner 0
aah good point pete... did you have the ignition on at any point when you disconnected the connector going to the maf? if so that'll confuse the ecu. I had problems when I unbolted the throttle body to change manifolds, I was getting 10mpg until I reset the tb !

SankysVR6 1
how do you reset the ECU anybody
binliner 0
IIRC you disconnect the battery for about 10mins and then reconnect it and the ecu will reset itself. I did something different to reset the throttle body though
Eat this 2
wil the alarm work fine after uv discond the battery???
madmonkee 0
cant u do it by pulling a fuse out, sure i read that sumwhere?
VR6Pete 1,455
to reset your ECU, either d/c the batter for 10 - 15 mins or unplug the plug to youe ECU under your scuttle pannel. Once you are all connected back up again, you need to leave the ignition in auxilery for 2 minutes while it sets the throttle up properly. once that is done, turn off, and start, the ECU will then re-learn all it's settings again.
