Jk* 0
I have recently noticed a noise when turning my steering wheel. Sounds like there is grit or something behind the wheel itself? Is this a common problem and easily fixed? Thanks in advance.
poultonjoe 0
i'd be interesting in knowing this too, i have the exact same problem!
purple highline monster 0
its either gonna be a load of black goo where dust etc gets behind the wheel and in the horn ring and soaks into the lube on the horn ring or some monkey has had the wheel off and disturbed or bent the horn ring so you get a slight scuffing noise, mine does it sometimes in really hot weather, not that often then!!!! VR6_Absy 0
Nah ... do it properly, disconnect battery and take your wheel off.Clean the rings and regrease.Tick the job off the list and move on to the next one ;-)
spanky 0
Do just as VR6_ABSY says, that sorted for me. Make sure you disconnect the battery, other wise you will end up with a fault code and your airbag light on all the time! I also had my steering column catching on the rubber boot in the footwell that is molded to a plastic backing plate. The rubber had come away from the plastic and a combination of pressing the clutch and heavy breaking pushed the plastic back, allowing the column to scrape on the rubber and catch on the plastic making for some nasty steering noise! All sorted now and not a penny spent, as I just snapped the bit of plastic off that was catching!!
