amit 0
hiya. Has anyone managed to have one of these installed.I was speaking to a transmission specialist garage, and they said its quiet hard to mount an additional oil cooler kit on the vr6's. Can anyone fill me in??
MarkGolf 6
I been told its OK!Get a Mocal kit and mount it in front of the rad. Think it may require some of the inside bumper cut out, but its nothing to worry about as it can't be sen if done properly!
wilko-vr6 0
are we talking about a cooler kit for the gearbox here?
amit 0
cooler kit for the transmission fluid. I was checking out the mocal cooler kits, im soo confused about which one to get.they seem to come in different rows. 13 row 16row 18 row etc etc
Eat this 2
i think mina has an oil cooler
mina 0
Oil coolers are well worth it - my oil temp very rarely goes over 90 degrees C - even when I'm thrashing it.It fits in front of the rad at the bottom. The more rows the bigger the rad which equals more cooling capability - but as there's not that much room there's not much point in going for more than 13rows.CheersMina
mightyvr6 0
You can buy oil cooler kits from www.thinkauto.com (mocal)
VRmonster 1
hes on about a kit for the gearbox. would this actually work, as i didnt think the gearbox had a pump for the oil, so it wouldnt circulate. i could do with one tho, cos when my box gets hot i struggle to find 1st, 2nd + reverse. lol
amit 0
sorry if someone mis-understood. I was on about the oil coolers for the transmission.
VRmonster 1
i dont think they have one as standard do they? so therefore would need an additional pump.

Mine rarely goes over 90 and I don't have an aftermarket oil cooler. You sure your charger doesn't help with cooling? Mine has seemed to since it was fitted.
mightyvr6 0
the charger acts as an oil cooler but it's still worth getting one if you do a lot of track days.
FishWick 21
Transmission coolers aren't easy to implement on the 02A box, or needed. Just stick some Redline MT90 oil in it. That's all you need. Having said that, I think VW Motorsport used to do an finned housing for extreme use. Not cheap! As for the Mocal engine oil coolers, they rock. My Corrado was running at 114 degrees cruising at 80 before the Mocal, now it runs at 94-96. Oil kept at less than or at 100 degrees = stable viscosity and less consumption.[ Edited Thu Jun 17 2004, 10:13PM ]
amit 0
so are these oil coolers hard to put in then?
