DaveDorson 0
So, I've consoled myself to the fact that I'm going to have to do this myself. There's an LUK Clutch with the car (yes yes, I know SACHS are better, it's all GSF had in stock and I was in a rush.. and it's OEM and I got a good price). My car is an aircon model. I know I can approach from two directions, engine and box out, or box out the bottom.. which ideal is better.. I've got a crane, and engine support bars, but I'll be working on the ground, with jacks and hand tools. I have no ramp or pit. I know I need to use a scissor jack to move the subframe out from the engine, well, tilt the engine a bit from the subframe.. and I know I need to take the box cup off on the flywheel side. Anything else I need to consider? Would you take the lot out and do it (and swap mounts out at the same time) or go under the car?
daveyboy 897
I had to take my shifter tower off to get the box out through the bottom. I think your gonna have a lot of fun doing it on the drive. I had a right fuck on getting the box in and out and that was on my mates 2 post lift
DaveDorson 0
I did an 8v MK3 vento a couple of years ago and it didn't leave me wanting to do it again.. and that was rod change.
Swivelonit 119
As already said, not easy at the best of times, even on a lift it is a pain in the arse. For what it costs I would book it in and let somebody else do it for you.
daveyboy 897
I'm too tight to do that lol. I just think if I can do it myself why pay someone to do it for me lol
Reaperx 181
Some days I wish I could pay somebody else to do it for me lol
Lukey. 381
I did mine on the drive by myself without moving the subframe or taking the diff cup out, it's doable but extremely awkward, it will come out a lot easier than it goes in, and it won't come out too easy. The second time I hired a hoist which helped a lot
daveyboy 897
I didn't take the diff cup off either but I wish I had coz when I was putting it back in that's what was catching

VR6CABBS 1,311
May The Lord be with you. Lol. What a mission.I was defeated pal. In the end I dragged it on a truck and dropped it off at the clutch centre near me. Good luck whatever you decide.
Therusterman 59
When I did mine last year, i don't remember it been 'that' bad. I had the engine supported under the sump, and with a little wiggling maneuvered the gearbox out, took a bit of lateral thinking, but didn't have to take either of the diff cups off. When refitting I made sure I angled the gearbox the same way it came off, and it fitted much easier than I expected. Two tips I have would be to make 100% sure the clutch is aligned properly, and have someone help you with maneuvering the gearbox on and off.
Lukey. 381
A long socket that fits snugly in the shaft splines will suffice to make sure of good alignment
Therusterman 59
A long socket that fits snugly in the shaft splines will suffice to make sure of good alignment Think I used a 13mm socket with a little bit of electrical tape wrapped around to give a snug fit. abvsean 32
I removed mine the other month,i wasn't getting any clutch movement so bit the bullet and took the front end out and pulled the engine and box abit of a mess on but the idea of trying to keep the engine in and remove the box seemed a nightmare,as iv done boxes like that before laying in the snow fitting clutches and boxes on christmas day....beats christmas tv though!! engine /box out i say
