  1. While I was replacing the 2-pin coolant sensor I took some photos and have just put it on one of my sites as a mini-howto. It's over-explained so that anyone can do it: http://myquickfix.co.uk/2013/12/replacing-the-blue-coolant-temperature-sensor-in-the-golf-vr6-mk3/ I hope it's ok posting external links here, if not I'll remove it Cheers, Ben
  2. Oh great! I've just found the alarm key, switched that off, and pulled battery. Will see how it goes. Thanks Also just checked that I do have a data port, the cover was super-glued on for some reason!?
  3. OBD2 Ok thanks I'll try and find a way to deactivate alarm and leave battery off. What did you mean about the throttle body making noises? confused Thanks!
  4. Ok thanks. I've had a quick search but not really sure what I'm searching for so any more info appreciated. Are you saying that I might need to actually adjust the idle-speed on the throttlebody itself? I assumed this was all done by wire on 'modern' cars. It is 17 years old I suppose
  5. Hi, I've had some idling problems. Until the engine was up to temp it would idle at about 1500rpm. After reading some tests I measured my 2-pin coolant sensor resistance and it was open circuit! So... fitted a new one now (new one measured 2.6kohm which seems about at today's temps). Now I think I need some codes cleared or ECU reset. When I start it now it's immediate, but idles at 1000rpm, and sometimes creeps up a bit. I don't have a fault reader or vag-com so is there another way? If it involves unhooking battery the alarm is gonna sound constantly while it's off. Any ideas? Cheers.

  7. Golf Mk3 VR6: Part: 025 906 041 A Desc: "Blue" 2-pin temp sender/sensor Date: 17 Dec 2013 Price: £21 special order item from VW (comes with o-ring & plastic clip). Price: £8 from GSF (part: 929vg014). Hard to tell if it's a cheap copy or genuine. O-ring and plastic clip sold separately for pence. My guide on how to replace one: http://myquickfix.co.uk/2013/12/replacing-the-blue-coolant-temperature-sensor-in-the-golf-vr6-mk3/
  8. Ok I applied force, and it sheared. Oh well, kind of expected that. It sheared far down inside the spacer so I think I'll either thread the spacer, or maybe just make some of my own holes in the panel, put something on them to stop them corroding for a while and be done with it. Cheers for ze input comrades.
  9. Hi, I want to remove and replace the plastic numberplate tray on my Mk3 Golf. I first tried a week ago but the rusted machine screw was so seized it broke an old screwdriver. I sprayed it with plenty of penetrating oil but still can't remove it. Can anyone tell me if this is a machine screw into a blind thread, or is there a nut on the back if it on the inside of the hatchback? Any tips? I could try to drill it out but that's a bit if a scary job if I want to retain any thread for a new screw :/ Image attached so you can see the type of fixing. Cheers
  10. About 20 attempts later! In the end I had to remove vacuum tube, gently press connector home, pray, dance, invoke things, and it made contact. Not easy! Then push vacuum tube in after. *sigh*
  11. It's on a MK3 Highline, only one glovebox low down under airbag. Ok I'll see if my hand will fit through headunit slot, it all looks very closed off back there! Thanks
  12. I'm adding a Bluetooth receiver that'll be ignition powered, but want a secondary input for various other devices. How much dash has to be removed to get to wiring to the glovebox?
  13. Hi, I need to present a jack or pair of RCA sockets somewhere on the dash or possibly in the Glovebox. In terms of ease of wire routing from rear of headunit, which locations might be best? Also, I'd love to see any pics of your auxiliary inputs and leads for ideas. Cheers! Ben
  14. Hey John, so it was the MAF right? Cheers
  15. Hi, I was tracing a speaker fault and undid the twist-on/off modular connector for the NSR door. There were broken speaker wires in it, so problem sorted, but now I can't get the connector back on. I'm a fairly careful patient person - honest guv! - but after 45 mins trying I'm about to get a big hammer. Any advice or reattaching the plug? The problem seems to be that the part in the frame moves when I try to twist the bezel to do the other side up. Wonder if some silicon spray might help loosen things? Help :/ please.
  16. Hey Michael you were absolutely right! Just behind the modular plug there are 2 broken wires and one 'nicked' one that's about to go. It's dark out and I wasn't able to get the plug back in, so I've had to leave the car unlocked until I can see what I'm doing. If you have any advice on how to get that plug re-attached (it seems one needs super small fingers!) I'd appreciate it. As far as the wires go, I'll find out how to take the door cards off and get that part of the loom out and do some repairs. Cheers! Ben
  17. Hi, thanks, can you explain a little more where that is? Is it right after the rubber boot? I want to strip as little trim as possible as it's all pretty old and I can imagine lugs snapping!
  18. Hi, new car and my Rear nearside speaker / tweeter is dead... cabling at radio is fine and at speaker end. So before I start yanking meters of cable out, are there any common failure / pinch points for speaker cabling in the rear doors? (Mk3 Golf VR6) Cheers!

    mk3 golf mats

Anyone uses justmatz since the started trading as torqueparts? Company name changes make me jumpy. Also, would dealer sourced mats be the exact ones the original car came with? I want fixing points and correct fit under pedals etc. Cheers!
  21. Ah great, thanks! Glad you're "still about" haha, Club Chairman hey? I probably should know that, but tooooo green here
  22. Thanks for the replies. I went with H1's as that seemed the popular answer. When I got to the car it turned out they are H7! So I'll return for a swap. Um... the light pods have 4 sections: Dipped on outside, 2 small ones in then middle (one clear, one frosted), and Main on the inside. Any idea what these are called? Sometimes it's all about the nomenclature init.
  23. Hi people, I need to buy bulbs this aft for Mk3 Golf VR6 and I'm not with the car to see what's needed size wise. The nearside 'dipped' is gone. But I've been Googling around and can't find if it's H1, or H4. The light pod has 4 separate sections, I'm assuming it's a standard late Mk3 VR6 unit. Cheers!
  24. Hi, anyone know if PeterVR6 is still about? (I'm very new). I'd like to see the Photos from the original post, any chance they can be fixed/recovered/reuploaded? Cheers
  25. That's gotta be the first time I've typed 'protuberance' in a forum. So yea I'm buying this Highline and doing a few little jobs on it, and the brake fluid reservoir looks odd, see?: I'm assuming that part of the cap has come off. Do I need to replace this 'urgently' or will it work just fine as-is for now? Thankingyou
