  1. Try Autoglym paint renovator if doing it by hand. If you buy or can borrow a machine polisher try : Chemical guys 'swirl b gone' or if you want the best regardless of cost 3M Perfect -it III range depending of severity of damage Use a rotary polisher if you have no previous experience of one to avoid making matters worse although a VR6 is of the vintage where the paints were nice and hard and VW didn't scrimp on the amount of paint they threw over their motors.     High mileage

    I am scared to death by mileage, either someone else has recently spent lots of money or it needs it at some point not too far in the future !!! Or maybe i worry too much ? I've had company cars ( except for a 5 series beemer with 250,000 miles on her that ran like a dream until the day i took to the scrappers )
