  1. ...and put some bloody lights on!
  2. I got a Thule roof rack for my MK3. One of the best things i've ever bought. The bars fit across the car and a rack fits on top.
  3. I'm just about to embark on that myself since finding a leak after doing the waterpump. Got milky fluid on filler cap. I was quoted £860 so I'm gonna have a go DIY style.
  4. I drove it last night, went up a hill with a few revs, it juddered and would not rev below 2k so I turned it off. After that it all seemed to work fine again!!! I am none the wiser.
  5. It will fire up on the key but dies. If the revs are kept up until it gets some warmth the idle is very low. Once fully warm it seems ok.
  6. I've had the dash apart to fix the heater matrix on my VR6 and now the automatic choke has stopped working. any ideas?
  7. Does the Aircon actually form part of the matrix? I can see the two rubber coolant pipes going in the top.
  8. I'm getting more steam in my cab than Ivor the Engine so I take it that's the end of my heater matrix. I have a P reg VR6 eyeliner with aircon. is this a massive issue to sort?
  9. Luckily Dan from Devon Dub Shack sourced me a whole new mechanism for under 15 quid from Plymouth Trade Part Specialists.
  10. Went to take the key out from driver side door and the whole barrel came out. Consulted the trusty Haynes regarding lock/handle replacement, fine so far... thinking the lock coupling & spring assembly was to blame in some way. You know, the coupling & spring assemby that fits on the end of the lock barrel, the bit that some numpty in the past decided to bodge by crudely cutting a wedge of sheet steel into a triangle and forcing into the hole. Don't you just hate that?
  11. Coolant flushed and renewed successfully. Cheers for advice.
  12. That sounds good advice. I'll give it a whirl & let you know how I get on. Cheers.
  13. According to the Haynes - flush rad like you say top and bottom hoses, flush with hosepipe. Then disconnect the Thermostat - replace cover and flush through to clear engine. Whereabouts is the Thermostat?
  14. I was gonna replace my coolant today as I have no idea when it was last done. I am reading from a mk3 gti haynes manual, but I'm not sure which hoses to disconnect as they look slightly different. I want to flush both the rad ant the engine. Can anyone give any helpful pointers?
  15. Status update, Managed to araldite the offending knackered plastic bit on the runner that holds the cable nugget. ran a cable tie through the hole around the cable and secured it with an inch long piece of bicycle spoke. works a treat, total repair cost £3.99.
  16. Its the metal clamp the grips the underside of the glass and slots onto the runner via a flimsy plastic clip. Mine un-popped with ease because the clip has broken. I don't know if its as simple to remove normally. I need both sides/ rear.
  17. Decided to have a bash at sorting out the rear windows on my eyeliner. It's that crappy plastic bit that the wire cable sits into has knackered. I think first I may try Araldite (other glues are available), but it's that weird teflon plastic so I'm not planning on too much success with that. I looked at a link that shows new clips are available. Can you get them for a mk3? Anyone out there got any better ideas, or even a spare mech or two? Doesn't have to have a motor. Si

    Fans

Was nosing around the engine after a trip out just checking things over. I had heard the fan running then cut out as it normally does. I noticed that there are two fans by the radiator, the main one that is connected to a electrical motor (the one that was working just then) and a slightly smaller one to the left that does not seem to have any electrical component attatched to it. How does it work and what is it for?
  19. Anyone feelin the pinch yet, what with fuel prices being phenominally rediculous, and the fact that VR's don't exactly sip petrol. I am having to drive like a right fanny, proper grandad stylee. gentle acceleration, straight into fifth, freewheel downhill just so I have enough fuel to boot it when some nobber wants a race. I dread the day it goes up so much I really have to seriously consider getting a piddly little petrol friendly car.
  20. I took a chance and bought a VR with no History whatsoever!
  21. Mine was also broken so I undid the two bolts, cut off some of the black plastic coating with a Stanley blade, prised open the connector with a small screwdriver, pulled out the old bit of wire with a pair of pliers, lined up the new exposed bit and bashed flat with a hammer, re-fitted bolts to bonnet, ten minutes max, Easy!
  22. Just got the VR looking nice when some silly old bint drove her Toyota Corolla into the side of my VR denting the rear door and door pillar.
  23. I tried new batteries in my remote fob, I tried allsorts of different ways of pressing it and twiddling with the screw. I contacted a couple of different 'specialists' who basically said it can't be fixed. My keys work fine but I would like a remote so what is a fairly inexpensive alternative fitment?
