  1. Has anyone got a cheap working VR6 coilpack they are willing to part with? Mine has stopped working on two cylinders. Alternatively has anyone had any experience with the ones sold from (maxspeedingrods) priced only at £46 delivered.

    front grill

Today some scrotey little toerag thieved my VR6 front grill, so now I am on the lookout for a replacement. Diamond black c/w badges.
  3. My clutch has started being weird sometimes in traffic, it does not fully return, have to sort of hook your foot around the pedal then it will be alright for ages. What's that about? recently fitted a new slave cylinder because I though that may be playing up.
  4. what condition is the engine and gearbox?
  5. My final drive has gone sloppy and making a racket so i really need a replacement box if anyone can help. No scene tax please.
  6. On the look-out now for a replacement 2nd hand unit. Will the VR take a gearbox from any other mk3's?
  7. Managed to free up the lock with repeated spraying of WD40 and cleaning the black sludge that oozed out. Key works fine now but; a) No steering lock Radio has to be turned off manually now. c) Play in steering column where there was none before. I reckon I will have to dismantle it all again, but that's a job for another day.
  8. My Highline has started to sound a bit whirry and there seems to be play where the driveshafts meet the gearbox. is this fixable or a replacement gearbox?
  9. oh what a faff. got the whole column out, had to heat of the splined shaft and bash it off with large hammer. replaced the ignition switch no problem. On re-assembly seemed the steering column was now too short (wtf)! Think issue with telescopicness or something. managed to knock the tube out a little, it fitted eventually. (bearing in mind that I was fitting all this on the roadside at night with a pen torch gripped between my teeth). Test drive proved successful so I let wifey take it to work. She rings me this afternoon to say key won't turn anymore.
  10. No I don't, but it is like a two legged puller with a cross member that tightens across it. Although i've just watched summat on youtube that shows the switch can be replaced by just taking out the steering column and accessing a screw from the back of the housing, so I'm gonna try that next.
  11. The ignition switch on my 96 Highline has given up the ghost. I've dismantled everything as far as the steering column but I cannot get the splined shaft off with the 3 legged puller that I have. Any ideas where i can get a puller from that looks like the one in the Haynes manual.

    Headlamp

Has anyone got for sale - n/s gti/vr6 headlamp? mine failed mot because the adjusters inside are broken
  14. My driver side window has started playing silly buggers as of late. Staying part way down for a day or so then righting itself, now staying mostly open, Grrr! Is this more likely to be a switch issue or motor issue, or just wintery gremlins?
  15. Bah, that's a bit of a trek for me, cheers though.
  16. With reference to my post about my aircon, I am after a good working OBD2 aircon pump asap. Pretty please with sprinkles on!
  17. Well, as it's a tad warm lately, and I had a few quid in my pocket, I thought I'd treat myself to getting the aircon re-gassed. Forty quid, yep I'll go with that. "Sir, can you have a look at this" said the man. blah, blah, blah pressure supposed to be about fifteen, blah, blah, blah, only showing five and dropping. blah, blah, blah no leaks so probably the pump. Right, so I'll just keep the windows open then. I'm gonna ask - Has anyone got a spare working aircon pump for '96 VR6? cash waiting.
  18. What is the rubber wheel for that is on the handbrake part of the caliper?
  19. I did mine over a weekend, Ballache but do-able, remembering exactly where all the wires that are bundled up in white foam go, The two security nuts under the steering column can be fun. lots of twisting and turning and crouching - expect neckache and backache. May need to get airbag light reset afterwards, a local vw garage did mine for nowt.
  20. Maybe I need to weld an extra piece on to the dipstick so it reaches further down. It didn't use any oil hardly in four years until I did the head gasket. I have probably done a couple of thousand miles though since I checked. The missus has been using it for work and I have been using the '69 Beetle, which is part why I haven't done a regular check. (mine is far superior in this shitty weather). I topped it up today and it took just over two litres - which ain't so bad. By the way, I went to GSF - £16.15 with 10% Discount, so I went next door to Euro - £13.85
  21. There is a slight drip from around the oil cooler, nowt really on the drive though, certainly not five litres worth. Not noticed any burning oil - no smoke or smell, water is all ok. that was all sorted when I did the head gasket. Had the valves reground when the head was skimmed.
