  1. Right, done it - seems to have smoothed out deceleration when coming off the accelerator, but I think the engine is misfiring too! Aaaargh!! +o( I unplugged the MAF and went for a spin, that hasn't made a difference... Next stage, new HT leads I guess! I think the ones I have are originals, are the originals red with the cylinder number printed on each lead? The magnecors seem to be what everyone uses here, do they have the connectors for the coilpack / sparkplugs or do they require soldering? Thanks all!!! Guess I'll be getting the train this weekend :@
  2. Thanks for the incredibly speedy replies! The plugs I got are the NGK BKR5EIX - are they pre-gapped? That's very confusing about the gaps, I always assumed it was tip - ground, not insulator - ground! :S Its a bit strange, as soon as I changed the plugs the car ran beautifully smooth but after half a mile it all started to get a bit rough... and now after 5 miles it's seriously misbehaving :-# Initially I thought it was misfiring but it kangaroos lots at low revs so it's gotta be the fuel. Right? Steep learning curve this is for me!!!
  3. Hi all! Just changed the spark plugs on the vr and, judging by the way it drives now, it's rich as a b**ch! Is there any way to reset the fuel trims to force the ECU to re-adapt (i.e. unplug the battery)? Or is it a vagcom job? It's an OBD2 '97 golf.
  4. I think some part of my gearbox / shifter is in it's way out :-| Going from 1st to 2nd there is sometimes a nasty crunch as it passes through neutral. What's broken? I'm assuming it's not the gearbox itself but the shifter / selector mechanism. As I'm gonna get the timing chains replaced soon is this the sort of thing that should be done at the same time?
  5. Hi all! I got another set of the standard BBS rims (so 205/50 R15) and I'm looking at rubber for them - don't wanna spend £400 tho :-# Which tyres do people like? Currently I'm chin scratching over some of the Hankooks...
  6. Thought I'd give an update on how the LPG conversion went! Got lots of lovely pictures too :-d The conversion has been done, and I’m currently running on gas – saves a small fortune, I did ~500mi this weekend – Cost me £70 instead of £95 (ish!). The conversion was £1150 plus £35 for the control software and cable and £20 for a full tank of gas. Normally I do 31mpg on the motorway, and coming back from Cardiff - Southampton I got 22mpg. After doing 500 miles this weekend I did my first remap, so hopefully things will improve a bit, though I don't see myself getting more than about 25
  7. You might be starting a trend donpulsar! Good update, thanks. I booked in my vr for conversion in with Profess Autogas for a couple of weekends time (2nd oct), they had no problems doing the modifications on a saturday. Gotta leave Macclesfield at 6am to get there at a reasonable time, but hey ho... Caerphilly is lovely like you say, might check out the castle... The guy I spoke to on the phone (Eddie) was really helpful and answered all the questions I could imagine! Question for you (don), which size tank did you get fitted? Does it sit flush with the spare wheel cell or did you choose a sl
  8. Hi! I was wondering how you got on with your LPG conversion... Everything running ok? I'm seriously considering getting this done.
