  1. I just noticed theres oil seeping from what looks like the head to block join! Right behind the maf on the end of the block, it starts at the lower head edge and spreads out - just missing the rearmost belt pulley - anyone else had this? Hopefully its nothing to do with the head, but not happy now i've seen it
  2. god i keep getting logged out here!!!! yep, bought a new maf in ebay and a vag405 code scanner.... she must live again!
  3. Ok, its the MAF. Disconnect it, and it runs sweet as a peach except it wont idle. Connect it, and it backfires down the exhaust after a few seconds, hunts, revs itself then splutters out and dies, wont rev unless the throttle is mashed, obviously only reading higher levels of airflow but nothing below a certain level, but overfuels like crazy. There was a split in the hose from the cam cover but thats fixed, still the same btw.
  4. Ok guys, need some help and inspiration here! The car has started acting up....after cruising around 30 miles to work, or home this morning, it starts to slacken off when cruising at a steady speed and loses all engine power. If the clutch is dipped it will hunt at really low revs, occasionally revving itself a couple of times then cuts out completely. If the throttle is pinned, it will accelerate hard, but wont rev if the throttle is opened gently or not enough, it will just splutter. Weirdly - the induction hiss becomes very sharp and loud when it sits hunting - almost cutting out, then it
  5. could be a vacuum leak, or a gummed up butterfly valve in the tb, the wee idle air gap is tiny, my gti used to do this all the time, cleaned the TB and butterfly flap both sides as well as the tube, perfect. Tried doing it from the outside but didnt work, taking it off and scrubbing both sides of the flap did the trick tho. I believe the strong vacuum from overrun in gear pulls the flap tight into the goo, sealing the idle air gap (1mm notch) and cutting the engine out. There are of course other things like vac leaks that can do this, harder to find them but make up a cap that fits the MAF tu
  6. was wondering what that thing was too. looks like a serpentine belt tensioner but seems not to contact the belt?
  7. if the rings were worn, the oil still shouldnt make it into the inlet, as the valves would be closed - it would just get burnt. The PCV valve is likely chucking oily crap in there all the time, install an oil catch can and replace the pcv with that.
  8. cheers lads. Its a shame I have the audi sitting waiting to get broken for spares, its a B6 1.8T 163 sport, and the red suspension is low and stiff as standard, I dont think theyd fit but would be cool if they did. Saying that, wouldnt be able to move the shell without blocks in the spaces lol Anyone needing any A4 Sport parts? 52 plate B6 wi bent valves due to sludging issues. Would swap audi bits for golf bits....or cash lol. Gonna break it on ebay soon.

  12. anyone know what the lowest drop in mm that will not affect the camber when cornering? I am gonna fit jom coilys next month and read about the lower arm swing angle causing positive camber under cornering forces when excessively lowered...? Mine has 17s on and looks like its on stilts LOL. Decoded the options codes this morning, and the wheel size was listed as 6J x 14 offset 43, but the tyres listed as 225/45 R17...wtf?? I have 205/40/R17's on at the mo. Are these wrong?

    quickshift

Hi guys, Anyone got a diy for a quickshift mod on the vr6? Searched for ages but could only find expensive kits! Was hoping there was an engineering mod that could be done cos the long throw is doing my nut in but £300 for a shift kit is a bit strong
  14. AAAAAAAAARGH! And it logs you out for inactivity! http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk is the kind of board I mean. Like when I replied here, there is no marker to show I posted, nor jump to the last post, I have to scroll thru all the posts to get to the end...
  15. i mean when you post in a thread, then it reappears later, theres no indicator to show you posted in that thread, nor can you jump to the first unread post in a thread. If its say, 5 pages and you read the first 3, then when you go back, you gotta find where you stopped reading...php bb is much better to use. And the go button after posting should take you back to the forum section you were in, not just to malarkey, or have to scan down the expanded list to find the sub section you were reading! its fappin annoying as hell Also, like when I posted this, it jumped to the first post in the thre
  16. waa haa it suddenly goes to the post now after posting!!! Now, what about the rest? Its rather annoying to use this forum cos of all that!
  17. Why, can you not go to the last unread post....or get an indicator to show you've posted in a particular thread...or go to the same forum section after posting instead of "general malarkey" from the go button....or go to your post after posting....?
  18. the guy in the black suv dabbed the brakes or it would have been a different story! Watch in slo mo lol
  19. im just thinking the same, might do mine black, but graphite or gunmetal or titanium grey might be good too. my mazzer wi gunmetals: ma scoob wi satin black rims and lettered tyres: my current audi wi matched rims to the body colour: my old skyline wi black n chrome splitrims: and the current VR, wi boring silver...which colour for this badboy?
  20. a guide i saw said to figure out where 3rd is, put the box in 3rd from the box end - then slacken the shifter bolts and it will jump to the correct position, then tighten up again and try it.
  21. I have just put a new tailgate on mine, and came time to swap the number plate.....there were 2 open unplugged holes in the centre of the plate recess, well away from the screws that mounted the plate on, and if I hadnt had the plate off, would never have known they were there, and water would have pissed into the inner door skin then into the inside....... Also the hinges may not be adjusted to give a tight seal around the door.
  22. aye fishing gut every time, makes an effective saw to cut thru the foam on the badge rear but doesnt damage the paint, then use petrol to soften and remove the residue. Just get a length and wrap round fingers, saw up and down as you pull across the badge direction.
  23. Used to be Black Ice, Vanillaroma, or Scotland....(there was a blue tree called "Scotland" that smelled great....dont know what bit of Scotland it was meant to be tho, doesnt smell that great usually) I wish Lynx made car fresheners.......Fever & Instinct (Man-Leather) - oooh lol (that last one doesnt sound right somehow.....but it smells good anyway)
  24. Fife, East Central Scotland...opposite Norway
