i was going to go without caps but with the amount of salt on the roads i decided to keep them on. id really kick myself if i sold it as it will almost certainly sell at a loss but there are so many things i want to do with it and i dont think i can stand driving it knowing ive got bugger all free time to finish it. on the plus side its good to have work. nice positive twist bungy. if it goes i think i'll strip all the desirables off it and sell it standard. expect a few 'choice' items in the for sale section soon. incluing a vr6!

not a lot of progress here. had an oil change today and fitted a set of boot lifters under the bonnet as the manual bonnet stay is ugly. other than that not a lot to report. with reason.... i think i may be selling up. ive been chasing my tail with vw's now for a year. first the rado, then two golf vr's. finally got a good one but ive run out of time to put into it. ive spent a fortune on it in the time ive had it and done sod all miles as it been in garages longer than on the road but ive got guaranteed work for 6-9 months and its non stop 60 hours a week minimum not including travelling. so

ok. good news. all faults accounted for. the fogging inside was just the weather. possibly a bit damp inside where it has leaked but ive run the aircon constantly for the past few weeks and it seems to have dried out. i cleaned the windows as well and now dont need the aircon. the coolant does drop slightly but ive done 2.5k of med to long runs since topping it up and its barely dropped. the oil has been fine as well in that time and no mayo whatsoever. so happy days. changed the oil and filter as well today as it has done 12k since its last change. and a massive improvement i must say. much c -

as the coolant level doesnt drop that quickly im confident the amount on the ground is the onbly leak i have. there are no signs its coming from anywhere else. so if its leaking at the very front of the car am i looking at a faulty pipe/radiator??? -

think i may have found the cause of my gradual coolant leak. the engine may well be using some on short trips but the snow helped highlight the area i assume its leaking from with a bright pink stain as i pulled into my driveway today. i have a pic but cant upload it until this evening. but its the very front of the car smack bang in the middle. im not getting under it in this weather so anyone fancy a guess as to the problem? -

i did think that but i guess until it lets go or it gets warmer i wont know as the windscreen and rear window were leaking for a while. there must be a lot of moisture behind the dash by now. what are early warning signs for heater matrix? just so i know for sure -

before my short trips started 1k? 2k? 3k? hard to tell. im only doing short trips for another week and a half but as ive always needed to do it i wanted to know if the signs were there? or does the vr lump tend to drink? forgot to mention my engine temps seem pretty normal. 98 regular driving up to 102/104 with a lead foot. according to the mfa. tend not to look at the dial as it always reads 90 no matter how fast im going. any of this actually abnormal or do i have autohypechondria? -
feel i should start a new thread as ive very vague symptoms. ive only ever had one head go in my years of driving but that was a burst rad. i also want to keep this updated as ive just topped up the levels and reset the trip to keep an eye on how much fluid its really using. so here goes.... the tank doesnt leak but needs topping with coolant evry so often. until i know exactly i wouldnt like to guess. the oil drops as well but again there are no obvious leaks. and prob only drops from full to a 1/4 way off the min line in the same time the coolant drops. when i topped it up today there was a

fairly sure id seen a mk3 with g60's on. might be wrong. 4 stud aint really a problem. plenty of adapters out there. will have to stick with the 'pots now anyway. skint as it is and -a new set of tyres as well, and whats its cost me to refurb the rs's, retrim the headlining, and all the other bits and pieces im buying. christmas is going to be good this year for someone!

not got a lot done as ive ben away working during the week. so the car hasnt seen much love monday - friday. but as its taken so friggin long to get my centres refurbed ive written the idea of getting them on the car asap off in favour of the 'winter mode' look. so i succumed to the inevitable and decided the massive and unsightly 60/65 profile tyres on my pepperpots needed replacing so i went from this at the weekend to this also decided i needed a pair of these as the black sills were boring next up i had a go at fitting a polo 6n door handle to the n/s. might have to do the o/s as well

that pretty much where its at at the moment. in between the big jobs ive done this its dirty and im sick of it being a puke colour. so plan is, suede or something dark to cover it with. already got black grab handles from a passat. on the hunt for cabby visors and will prob end up painting the rest also. these i sold as they didnt fit, shame as they looked good shockingly some of you might say, i sold these nice but not the direction i thought i was going with the car so rolling on these sh***rs again not for long as i managed to find for a good price, some of these spent a while splittin

next stop was the mare i was having with water getting into my car. firstly through the rear quarter window. wish id made a video it was really bad. basically i asked the bodyshop to paint my rear n/s quarter with the window out as it has rust creep. they didnt. just cut the seal back from round the window, keyed, primed and pained. that was my problem. where the divs had cut the seal they'd cut too deep and water had about an inch gap to flow in and onto my rear seat. not fucking happy. silicone out and i filled it from the inside. next stop was the windscreen. might have been the original bu

major update. last here late august. got back from holiday. failed an m.o.t. on a lot!! not sure where the pic of my test failures has gone from the previous page but who cares. past that now. so to sumarise my test..........emissions were way too high. tyre had a gash in it. front n/s shock had no oil left in it. exhaust no supported properly, broken hanger at the rear box and centre box mount not long enough. so i decided to take up paul parky on his offer and he came round with his welder and made a start on my shitbox. this was the centre mount on my milltek exhaust. see how it doesnt qu

turns out the siren is faulty on this system but the system is not faulty. the window opening is confusing but getting used to it now. the reason it was working intermittantly was a faulty vac pump. it stopped working completely when i got back from holiday and i opened it up and got a massive whiff of burnt electrics. water had got in through the light and dripped in. so everytime i unlocked and locked the car it was gradually cooking the circuitry in the pump. the board was black in one corner and the motor was completely fryed! popped another pump in from the scrappy and it works everytime

i cleared my sunroof drain holes out the other day thinking the wet headlining between the interior light and the glass was due to them being blocked. got in my car after some heavy rain yesterday to find the lining soaked again and a puddle on my gear gaitor. ive waited for it to dry before checking the drains again. put a bit of kitchen roll where it normally gets wet and pured water into the sunroof channel. drains let water out pretty quickly and the towel is dry. decided to try the screen and pured a load of water at the top where the lining is normally wet in the small gap between the g

did mine yesterday. my roof console was soaked near the sunroof. thought it was getting in through the windscreen seal as there were 2 drip marks on the inside of the glass. rolled the roof back and poured some water into the channel and watched as my passenger side drain hole in the door shut let some water out but not my drivers side. so i stuck my finger in the rubber tubes and pulled a load of muddy crap out. flows a lot better now. best to check the rear drains as well. pour some water towards the back of the sunroof channel and it should come out under the rear bumper at the back of th
