Thanks, i'll check it when it's not raining lol. Only thing is, if the switch sensed a too low or high operating pressure wouldn't the system not even engage the compressor clutch to protect it's self? The compressor on mine does cut in, just none of the pipes are at their correct temperature.

Hello again, My air con is blowing only slightly cold air. Before you ask it has been re-gased a few months ago. On removing the old gas the machine showed nearly the maximum amount of gas in the system had been removed, so I am confident that there are no leaks. After checking the proceedure on autodata I tried running the air con on full wack and checking the temperature of all the hoses, all were at ambient temperature which was a bit strange. The compressor clicks on and off as it should. Could it be the compressor at fault? Also the fan does not come on (see other thread). Anyone know wh

Hi all, probably an obvious question but, when the engine is hot and the cooling fans cut in and then the engine is switched off, are the fans meant to carry on spinning afterwards? Only reason I ask is that mine don't although they do work when the engine is still on. They also do not spin when the A/C is switched on and the vehicle is at a stand still - I would have thought they would come on to make the condenser work. Any ideas of what to check first? I've already check all the related fuses.

VR6OC National Meet 6-8th August Billing Aquadrome
jonny-5 replied to Ben Seabrook's topic in Previous Events
I'm looking forward to getting into the meets a bit more, Saturday/Sunday got me thinking about what to do to mine. Seeing all the other cars made me realise how much my car needs lowering lol -
Haven't added any updates for a while so here goes all at once: Got a massive crack in my windscreen, got it done by National windscreeens in the end - did a good job The back box sheared off at the join as one on the hangers had snapped (original exhaust). So I thought it would be a good chance to upgrade, managed to get a Stainless Magnet system for a good price. The sound is perfect - I was worried it would be a bit noisy like my G60 was with a Jetex but it's nice and subtle. Got a US spec handbrake surround which came with the all important bracket (you really do need this to fit them prop

Had a look at the spark plugs this afternoon, 1 and 6 were knackered! I wire brushed them and the electrode shroud pretty much fell apart! A quick trip to the local motor factors and a set of NGKs later and it's smoother than ever! Clearly it's always best to check the classic simple stuff before assuming something more compicated. I over looked the plugs it as I though would have messed up the mixture readings at the lambda and Vag-com would pick it up?

I messed about with it at work earlier and vag-com'd it, it said there were no DTCs. I un plugged the MAF too but made no difference, this was only a idle though. I cleaned out the throttle body also, made no difference either. Gave it a bit on the way home and it's now running fine *-)

Hi all, I have a '97 Golf VR6 (OBD2) and recently the idle has become a little rough, it is most noticable in the cabin, although it revs freely. Also it has a slight smell of fuel which I can't seem to pin point, although I am pretty sure that it is not coming from the engine bay and I have also checked most of the lines under the car. Anyone give me a good place to start? Gunna check the plugs and basic stuff later this evening hopefully. Thanks in advance

Rear brake slider boots
jonny-5 replied to jonny-5's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
GSF and Euro carparts didn't have them and both say they're dealer only. Managed to get a few good second hand ones from Sanburns for the mean time while I order some new one's from the dealers. -
Been busy this week and got my 312mm front and mk4 rear calipers on, along with 3 ABS sensors and 2 rotors, all wheel bearings, braided hoses all round, new discs and pads all round, new hand brake cables and new brake disc shields on the front. Had a few troublesome bolts to deal with, had a rounded off carrier to hub bolt on the rear - a 15mm socket hammered over soon sorted that. Also a sheared off ABS bolt - had to drill it out and then helicoil that one. It's made alot of difference even though I haven't properly bled the system yet (it's quiet spongy still) but when they kick in it stop

Hi, just fitting my 312's and mk4 rear brakes this week and I forgot to get new boots for the sliding bolts on the rear calipers. They're the ones that go over the sliding bolts between the caliper and carrier (2 per side) Does anyone know where I can get some quick, ideally same day? Do GSF or euro etc have them on the shelf?

vr6 rear brake upgrade q's
jonny-5 replied to Antihero1981's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
BBM in the states offer a 280mm rear brake conversion kit, there was a group buy on the corrado forum a while back, got some good reviews. -
VR6 OBD2 error code, got code what next?
jonny-5 replied to roosevelt1st's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Think alot of people fix this with a new ABS pump -
Right, just been down the scrappers and found the cable I been looking for. For reference it comes from right up behind the clocks area down two wires to a yellow or somtimes blue coloured connector that looks like it won't fit into the airbag fly lead connector (although it does), before going into the copper ribbon type lead to the airbag. Clear the DTC and it should now function correctly!

Ah yeh, took me a while to find a good dragon green one that wasn't either a 5-door or a heap. It was between dragon green and the colour in richievr's sig, that colour looks awesome on Corrados, known as blackberry metallic in Corrado circles or sometimes bramble, dunno if it's the exact same for mk3's though

Hi all. I've had this for about 6 months now, it's my first VR6 and previously i've had a 1300 mk2 Golf (first car lol), then an 1800 Corrado 16V, then a Corrado G60, an ebay rare Oak green mk2 Golf 16V and now this. It's a 1997 VR6, with cloth interior and climate control, the rest of the spec you can see. I bought it needing the timing chains doing (as did most I went to see, even if the owner said there was no rattles!) did it on the second day I had it, good job I did as the upper guide was about to break in half! Also did the clutch and rear crank seal while I was at it. So far it's had a
