alright all' date=' i took the plunge and called the guy in the add i posted.
He was an older fella (good sign i suspect) who bought it off a mechanic mate of his 6 years ago (who he claims did a bit of work on the engine)
he thinks he is the second owner (said he would call and find out), and said he would get a list together with receipts of what has been done to the car for when i go have a look.
over the phone he told me that he has had the electric windows replaced, new valves, he said last bloke replaced the timing chain, new radiator and the rest is on a peice of paper i scribble down somewhere :S lol
he did tell me the air conditioning stopped working, but because he does litle driving now and the weather he has not replaced and suspects it just needs new gas (is their any way to check this?)
will keep you all posted and try and get some flicks for you when i go tomorrow!

Aircons pretty straight forward, cant really go wrong. Regassing or recharging is pretty inexpensive and can be done at most garages.
Sounds pretty good! Considering the engines been maintained well, not many owners and is unlikely to be have been thrashed.
Don't know whether its just bad luck, but I've had 2 golfs now and replaced the electric window mechs 3 or 4 times now. Think that must be a common problem.

Apparently, speed cameras and ANPR have trouble logging plates that appear genuine. So, font changes must be impossible for them. Not that that concerns anyone |-)

If your doing short, slow journeys into town then the mpg is terrible. But on the open road, long distance journeys the mpg is pretty good I've noticed.
150k km (93k miles) is nothing as well. I'd get one Paul while you're still young and no commitments. You won't be sorry!

Awesome...

yeah, looks like one of the pipes are designed to absorb the sound rather than the extra box
-
As far as I can tell resonated is quieter than non-resonated. What's the difference?
-
Mine didn't stay shiny for long. Patches of rust started to appear :-(
-
Cheers people, twin it is then. I agree with GaVR6in's comment.
Now, I'm unsure about resonated or non-resonated. What's the difference?
-
Twin looks to be the winner then...
i have oval only pic is this one
Any close-ups mate?
-
Which looks least chavvy for a MK3 Golf, the twin 80mm tail pipes or the 2" oval one?
I'm almost certain I'll get the twin, as the other one reminds me of the bean can style you see on Corsas, Fiestas, etc. What do you think? If anyone has any photos to use for comparison that would be great!

;( I don't think these wheels were meant to be haha
Thanks sharky for drawing that out for us. Not sure what the next step is then. Do I still try them on, just to see?
-
the link above is for spacers not adaptors mate
Oops! The sellers asked me for measurements and everything. I've told him what wheels I need to fit to what car and it seems to be okay so far. May be he does both spacers and adapters?
Nevermind ay. I'll just get the H&R ones from venom if all goes to pot!
-
Just bought these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370305882251
So hopefully getting an email soon asking for measurements!
Cheers again for your help people!
Another question... I hear it's an MOT failure if they are too far out from the arch?
-
they are 8.5J... so I guess really thick spacers aren't necessary?
-
the offset is 13? Not sure where to look for that? They're ET13 if that helps?
-
Think I'll get the hubcentric ones, cheers for that sambo! Just out of curiosity, what thickness did your bro go for? I'm not sure whether to go the full 35mm - not sure how it will look...
-
Hey people,
just got some great looking bbs wheels off egay. I'm just stuck about finding the right wheel adapters though. The car is 5/100 I believe and the wheels are 5/120. I've seen your recommendations on previous posts such as H&R, but where do you get them?
Cheers!

I want to get my VR6 lowered. I've managed to find someone to fit the springs for me but I have to source the parts. I've found these on eBay...

Had exactly the same problem with my 8v, but it only happened every now and again. Had an auto leccy look at it and he said it might be the imobiliser. Never got round to repairing it though...
