Catch 22 init. If insurance wasn't so stupidly over priced in the first place people wouldn't be taking risks like that.
-
I'll have to get my membership sorted out, my last one expired. Cheers for the answers - don't like getting second hand sometimes, the VR deserves better
-
Can you do this without going to the scrappy all the time?
-
Try HIC' date=' they are a sister company to Adrian Flux and do short term policies subject to conditions.
Dan.

You're using the same quote form as Sky - so again, I can't choose Golf VR6
-
www.insuredaily.co.uk is our sister company
Golf VR6 isn't in the list of vehicles, what do I do now?

The Stephen King episode is just as funny. Love Family Guy

The Star Wars episode is total win

Sucks that I'm working

Ah that's more like it! Wouldn't mind paying that.
I could do the same thing then, stick the golf on the same insurance as my run-around.
-
Yeah been through 3 search pages and only found 1 site so far that has given me a quote.
All the other sites seem to redirect you to one particular useless site. And, you either they don't recognise the car reg, don't have vr6 in the list of Golfs, or you can't pick a date of birth less than 1987 - it's really poor.
You're not wrong - the one quote I got, I can adjust the days from 1 (£70) to 28 (£600). Ouch
Might give Sky a ring next week. I just don't want to insure it for an entire year if I'm only going to be using it 2 days a month.

I'm trying to get quotes for temporary insurance and not getting anywhere. Like Dayinsure.com for example, is telling me that they can't insure the car, possibly because of the age.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Will Sky or Chris Knott, etc offer temp cover?

I find the cheapest insurers aren't on those compare websites. I don't bother with them anymore.
You need to be ringing insurance companies like Sky and Adrian Flux as they have definitely been the cheapest for me. As soon as you tell them you're driving a VR, they know exactly what your talking about.
And, get a quote from each one of them and you'll find they'll try and price-beat each other. It's up to you then to pick the one that has won the little price battle you started.
I'm 23, and I've been with Sky for the 2nd year now. 3 points, 4yr license with no claims and I pay just over 450/yr.
I was with Quinn years ago, when I didn't know about the smaller insurers and I was paying 1000s for a diesel Astra! Can't believe it. Good luck.

Voted on Leicester. Everywhere else seems too far for me. Be cool to see some other VRs in the flesh. I haven't seen not one where I live :-(
-
That's no good. They should of asked for it from the very beginning - not 2 months later.
-
My insurer sent me a reminder a couple of months after I started a policy asking for a copy of my cheapest quote. And, if I didn't send them anything they would put my policy up to it's original price. Who keeps quotes, especially when you're months in to the cover?
So, just sent them an angry letter and heard nothing since.
Possibly another way for them to try of steal a bit more of your hard earned cash.

Good read. Might consider converting in the near future

I got a set like these on mine. Low & high beams are HID and is more than enough light, even when dipped.
Some cheaper kits don't have high beam in HID...

It's done 116k.
The oil pump was one of my first thoughts because it's like the engine is starved of oil for the first few seconds.
Any ideahow much a new oil pump is?
I got the same mileage as you and sounds rough for the first minute or so. Never thought anything of it, just thought it was down to age.

Are any of the interior lights staying on, especially the boot light?
Mines slowly running flat and a electrician said it might be the alarm/imobiliser (which doesn't work atm). Getting the alarm replaced soon to see if it does make a difference.
Good luck

Had a quote to replace the clutch' date=' timing chains and possibly the flywheel if need be, on my '97 highline, by my local vw dealership. They said they'd need the car for 4 days and total bill would be £1600!!!!!!!! 4 bloody days.........they having a laugh or what! What is about doing the timing chains on these engines that causes a mechanic to give you that "sucking through the teeth, ooooh thats gonna be......." then he runs a mile!!!!! my engine is of the later, OBD2 type an covered 108,000 miles. what is the general sort of hard & fast rule about changing these chains, do they need to be done or will they last the life of the engine, cause i'm having a right game trying to get someone to do them for me. Whilst the gearbox is off to do the clutch, and the flywheel is off, i figure it be good sense to do the chains as well. Anybody else had a similar problem, or can recommend somewhere to take it?

Where abouts in Lincs are you? I need to get my chains done at some point and haven't a clue where to start
-
Do you have problems like the battery going flat occasionally. I have a similar problem on mine, but i've put it off for ages... i was told it might be an earthing problem.
Might not be what's wrong with yours, but thought it might help in your investigation.

That happened to my 8valver a few years back. The coil pack went and I melted the majority of the loom around it. Can't remember the price in total, but wasn't cheap. Good luck mate
