  1. Hi, apologies for this not relating to my vr highline but to our 99 cabrio. I have two problems with the passenger door side and would appreciate help: 1. The passenger leccy window works from the drivers side but not the switch in the passenger door. It's Bern like this before I bought it a few years ago and is just an annoyance. 2. In the past couple of weeks the passenger door will open intermittently. The key goes in and twists the mech fine, you can hear central locking whirring, sometimes everything works, other times you can open from inside, others from the outside, or not at all. A
  2. Ok, thanks for the advice, will get some VW ones and a free Saturday afternoon!
  3. Hi I've been informed that the rear bump stops have gone on my VR6. Before I buy some from VW or GSF, is there any difference and is there a performance alternative? The rest of the car is thus far standard. Oh - and how easy are they to change? Thanks Paul
  4. Hi I've just found I have one of these fitted to my car but the blue lead is not connected to anything. What should I connect this to? Thanks
  5. Hi I have the same problem, but no solution yet. All I can say is that on my car it's not the dash insert or the fuel sender, so it must be a broken wire or bad earth? I've had the wires around the fuse box checked without any joy. If you get anywhere with it, please let me know. Paul
  6. Thanks - will try thsi once I have the car which should hopefully be this weekend!
  7. Hi I am looking at another Golf to add to the family (we already have a 96 Vr6 highline). this time its a 3.5 cabbie. there are a couple of electrical gremlins on it ad I wondered if you could help? 1 - the front passenger switch does not control the window, it can be from the passenger switch on the driver's door. - is this likely to be the switch that is faulty? 2 - Heated seats - the passenger seat won't switch off - what could cause this? - broken switch / relay/sensor? Thanks in advance for your help!
  8. Hi I've got a 96 Golf Highline and it came back from its service today with some advice notes. They include Front Discs and Pads Flexi hoses cracking Cat Bung Middle Section of Exhaust needs replacing rear caliper balance kit needed Can you help me with how much of this is easy to do / source parts or recommend upgrades over standard? Thanks Paul
  9. Hi just to let you know, problem fixed. The alarm had a feed from the fusebox that was loose. This isolated the ignition power!
  10. I have a wierd problme that has started this weekend. i went to start the car aftre an hour's break and it wouldn't work. When I say it wouldn't work, the lights worked, but nothing else. Turning teh key woudln't start, there were no lights in the dashboard, the cenral locking only worked on the key rather than the alarm remote. All fuses were intact. I replaced the ignition switch about wto montsh ago. Now, I popped the bonnet, turned the key in the ignition and hey presto, it worked! All fine until lunchtime today. Same problem, then I pop the bonnet andit starts again when I turn the key. W
  11. Thanks guys, plenty of food for thought for me. Where do you get your anti roll bars, poly bushes etc?
  12. Hi I've had my VR6 highline for about 2 months and it's a great fun car. I woudl like to tweak the handling a bit but don't want to lower the ride at all. Please could you tel me what my options are? e.g. anti roll bars, bushes etc? Thanks Paul

  14. Hi Andy Well done on your mk2 conversion! I had a similar problem with my VR6 OBD2. I then cleaned the throttle body with carb cleaner, which got rid of the flat spots and hunting, made it much more responsive, but then took it to an independent to get the basic settings done on the TB as it was idling a bit high. Apparently if you are patient enough, this too would adapt naturally after a few hours of driving! Hope this helps Paul
  15. Hi I need to buy some roof bars for my car and am confused. Thule sell roof bars but only for golfs without sunroofs...which must be every mk 3 golf in the uk? So...... Any idea why Thule won't sell roof bars where there's a sun roof? Is there a difference between the Thule and VW ones? Any idea where I could get some lockable ones second hand rather than paying stealership prices? Thanks Paul Any advice would be great.
  16. Hi. Problem fixed - it was the ignition switch! Will get a new one in the morning. For the time being I can start the car by pushing the key further into the ignition barrel whilst twisting it. Thanks for your help! Paul
  17. Thanks for the suggestion - do I need to do anything before disconnecting the battery? The radio is aftermarket so no codes there! Paul
  18. Hi I locked my car using the key in the driver's door at lunchtime. When I went back to it to start and drive off, using the alarm remote (non VW alarm system) the central locking worked, key in ignition all warning lights came on and went off but nothing happened when I tried to start it. I can hear the fuel pump working, the blower fan is working, just nothing in terms of starting. It's not even trying to turn the motor. Uptil now it's started everytime with a strong battery. Any suggestions? It's a late 95 OBD2 Golf highline. Is there an immobiliser on the car that is triggered by the door
  19. Hi yeah, it's supposed to do that, but mine is now doing this even when warm! Paul
  20. Hi I've got an OBD2 golf highline and have come up with a problem. Initially the car bogged down when warmed up. I cleaned the throttle body last night, foudn some loose clamp on the air box tubing and two loose plugs. The plugs were PCV heater by the MAF which was on back to front, and the ECT plug was loose too. Now it starts fine, but has a higher idle and takes a bit of time to settle down. This is not just on start up but also whenever moving into neutral, changing gear etc. Any ideas on what to look for? Thanks Paul
