  1. OK so i should already know this but.. Ive bought a 1995 corrado vr6 engine to go in my Golf 3. JBS Autodesigns are asking me to tell them the engine code shown on the block, but im stuggling to find it. I think this is cos the engine is laid on the ground, inlet up. Has anyone got a diagram or illustration of where to find the engine code please? Thnaks guys
  2. fritz thats my approach to it aswell, no point doing the swap while the current motor still runs. However i hope it goes bang in time for nurburgring next year! hee hee
  3. how far thru are you gav - do you know if the driveshafts from the golf a fit for the corrado gearbox? are you doing gearbox aswell, or just engine? you got nabbed at 104mph huh? (noticed on your facebook/myspace) bad luck mate....they got me at 110 in my old honda, i lost my license for 2 months, 200 fine and no points.
  4. cheers fraser, but has anyone done it? any bad experiences?
  5. I'm lookin for opinions and friendly advice peeps I have a 93 2.8 VR6 already, but the engine has a nasty fault and now gearbox is rattling in first so i figure sooner or later somethings gonna go bang. I have found a bloke who has a 2.9 rado engine and box, and inlet and throttle body and all other bits required. If it were you in my shoes, would you bother with the 2.9? Or would you just replace the 2.8 with another 2.8 which may be a simpler job. thoughts?? cheers
  6. cheers Ben - tried em but they havent got any VR engines in stock. Apparently they get bought up quick for the mk2 conversions! sheesh
  7. As above is anyone selling or know someone who is selling a 2.9 VR6 corrado engine? My 2.8 12v obd1 is poorly and needs replacing. Can anyone hook me up? Thanks paul
  8. Not gonna bother with the sound clip, it'll only give you all even more reason to flame me.
  9. personally, i thought the tailpipe style kinda echoes the angles of the car, plus wanted to be a bit individual instead of just choosing the same old. I'm working on the sound recording, should be able to post it up tomorrow.
  10. I went to Exhaustsuk in Sheffield about a year ago for an exhaust on my beloved 4th Gen Prelude VTEC, was over the moon with it so ive taken the Vr for the same treatment. "what kind of sound do you want?" Matt asks as my car goes up on the ramp. "Make it snarl" i said with a grin, and by god did he... Stainless de-cat with fancy tail pipe, £300 custom fitted. Right bargain IMO, see pics below. (excuse the car it was in desperate need of a wash) Opinions?
  11. For me, that mucky cow Denice Van Outen...Mmmm
  12. Can you tell us more about the porsche brakes? what car were they from? just front or rear too? cost? cheers
  13. Does it really matter either way? the reason i put the reaction time is because my bro and I were competing on that too, as well as the 1/4 mile time itself.
  14. for your viewing pleasure, see link to videos below. my bro and I giving it some stick at pod http://www.youtube.com/pauljonstokes LIST YOUR 1/4 MILE TIME Golf VR6 1993 12v 120k 1/4 mile: 15.62 Reaction: 0.3

  17. Anyone going along? Me in the vr and my bro in his rover 220 turbo will be there..it'd be great to meet some of ya!
  18. I've just bought boggo standard ones from my local motor factors for about 60 quid, for all 6. Engine has stopped spluttering on accel between 1000-2000 rpms...id say replace all and get peace of mind.
  19. Citroen AX GT Renault Clio RSi (1.6 16v) Susuzki swift GTi Seat Cordoba Coupe SX Rover 218 TD Fiat Punto 90 ELX (rare 1.6) Pug 306 TD Toyota Carina 2.0 (suprisingly quick) Old school BMW 320i Honda Prelude VTEC (now my wifes daily driver) Golf VR6 (my current daily driver) <--soon to be NOS'd Both the Honda and the Vdub will stay with me forever. *BIG fan of both* Honda can do amazing things with smaller engines VW's are my newest fixation
  20. JBS told me my misfire was due to insulation being split on plug leads...changed these and runs better, but the doh, doh, doh at idle is still present and rev counter twitching away as before. Car had a new ECU just before i bought it (apparently) so wont be that, hope my internals are ok! the engine does smoke some blue every now and then...

  22. i just posted this idea (not mine) on another thread, but it fits here too- what about thermally insulating the backside of your original mani? has anyone touched the top of their inlet mani after a run? - i just dont like the stoopid prices of the schrick items http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=NIM14100 - thermo tec cool-it mat http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=DEI010402 - Versa Shield
