Fit a schrick manifold. Im running schrick 268's in mine with no map. The additional air is metered via the MAF which sorts out the fuelling. If youre planning on sticking a schrick manifold on it then the combination of the two plus the other supporting mods such as filter, 6 branch decat back system etc would be helped by a map adjustment. But personally i can think of better ways of spending £500 on the car for a negligible gain.

You know you can 're- jig' the pins in the current lock to suit your keys. It saves having a key for ignition, each door handle & the tailgate. Im not sure if theres a how to lurking about but one of the guys down at my local VW breakers is a bit of a mk3 whizz and he can jig the barrels to suit the key.

sounds pricey to me - you could pick up a a jalopy VR for £400 get the bits you need and break the rest.

I wouldn't touch UM with a shitty stick- my friend bought a 'learning' chip for his VR with cams and schrick- dyno proven loss after fitting it In between runs. Poor service- got told it must be his engine 'tough' so he put the stock ecu back on and threw money down the drain. After a snooty reply like that reads to me 'were too big to sponsor your forum but well take your money happily'.... I'd be going to Vince.

i would definatley avoid taking out a 2.9 to put a 2.8 in. i couldnt warrant taking one out and not putting a 24V in. have it vagcommed and rolling roaded before you do anything i know people with pretty standard obd1's that run 190ish bhp and my obd2 only made 174 - no faults on vagcom serviced about a month before. at the end of the day why swap a running 15+ year old block for a mystery obd2 15+year old block? and if the 2.9s are no good how come the demand for them is huge? go figure.

i ran gas on my old vr and plan to put it on my next one once all the other stuff is out of the way. i ran a wizards wet system using 75 hp jets and a minimax controller, it completely changed the car and the torque is through the roof as i run a schrick VGi so the effect is similar to direct port as a schrick uses equal length runners. id favour a wet system as you can tweak your jets and lean it out to suit but if your going more than 50 jets then you should get some colder plugs to get a better burn. as for performane, everyday use its absolutley savage. even on the 50 jets you can school
