    A lad at work just done this the other day, but by accident as we have fuel cards for work so wouldn't have made any difference to his pocket! But the Police were on him like a flash so doesn't really work

    No bother matey. I should have mentioned this as well as it also happened to me prior to snapping the selector assembly off! In fact i think it was the temporary solution that foobared the assembly. I put a large washer on the top of the bush then tightened the nut down onto it. Whilst it initially made changing gears fairly stiff it soon wore in. Unfortunately i think it put too much strain on the selector hence snapping it off. Also VW told me i couldn't buy the bush and nut assembly separate so i had to buy new selector cables. As Calico said shouldnt need to replace fly wheel.
