  1. can anyone tell me what the normal runnin temp is meant to be on a 95 VR? ive had the thermostat out and it says on it 80, but under test its opening at about 68/69. therefore runnin on the cool side. the gauge takes ages to read and the temp never goes over about 70 (just over the white lines) apart from on tick over when it climbs quite rapidly then drops when i get movin out of traffic again. *-)
  2. front plastic cover just slides to the right and then out, you can use an ordinary torx bit or maybe an allen key (be carefull) to undo the bolts holding the side cover and the rear one. pretty simple really. Jay.
  3. ottobomb, thats great, i can easily understand that one so thanks for explainin it. im doin a college course in mechanics, and dads a mechanic my trade so thankfully im not a complete dead head. its the performance side of engines and upgrades im enjoyin learnin about.
  4. thanks for that, ill have to read it a few times and itl slowly make sense. i see the logic in it all tho with the duration the valve is open in relation to crank rotation.
  5. hi guys, just wondering if anybody can briefly explain how cams are measured? ive been reading about 268 cams, 264 cams etc but would like to know what these mean and what the difference is between the different shafts. always eager to learn!!
  6. sorry if i sounded like a tw*t saying the engine doesnt have to come out, its just a lot of people on the club gti forum say i cant be done otherwise. personally found it quite easy just taking the box out.
  7. if your in anyway mechanically minded and feel confident under the bonnet, chains can be done at home. im in the process of doing mine now and its not half as bad as id expected. and theres really no need to take the engine out, or the front end off for that matter.
