  1. I don't know how dropped mine is, but I believe its in the order of 50 odd mm. The tyres are Falken 512's - pretty good actually, but the best feature of them is the steeply raked shoulder. This minimises rubbing. Only rubbing I have had is basically trying 90 degree corners too hard, with big weight transfer. I may raise it by 10mm all round on its HR coilovers, when I find the second "spanner". I am a bit worried about rolling arches, as some on here talk of paint fractures/bubbling/bodgy jobs. A mate over here had audi a4 wheel arched rolled with no ill effects, so maybe I could do i
  2. Matt from near Poole, near richievr, but my VR and I are in Sydney...a little inconvenient for a south west meet perhaps. Our old 94 L reg Windsor Blue five door should still be around the Poole area though...
  3. JL Audio is the only way to go! Go for the top of the line ZRs. The speaker baskets are cast, bloody hell. Many subs are not cast! www.jlaudio.com Matt
  4. The Boss was in quandary. He had to fire somebody. He had it narrowed down to one of two people, Debra or Jack. It was an impossible decision, they were both super workers. Rather than flip a coin, he decided he would fire the first one who used the water cooler the next morning. Debra came in the next morning with a horrible hang-over after partying all night. She went to the cooler to take an aspirin. The Boss approached her and said: " Debra, I've never done this before, but I have to lay you or Jack off." "Could you jack off?" she says. "I feel like sh!t."
  5. I have the clutch "Crunch" too, but the steering issue is definately track rod ends or something like that. You can feel it through the steering wheel.
  6. Hi, I have the same symptom. My VR is lowered on H&R coils, and about the same vintage as yours - less than 50k miles. An ideas anyone? Also, harder steering to the right..... Matt
  7. Nerih, I'd be keen for the old Audi rims. Just to confirm they are max 7 in wide and 5*100 easy fit no adapters required (still in Sydney - postage would be an issue!)
  8. Aussie plates, 1998, equivalent of 42k miles
  9. Sebring do a great kit for the vr - the best bit being the "how f'ing big are those tailpipes?" questions! the powdery pops and burbles when coming of the4 throttle at low spedd are awesome and the top end just growls, hard.
  10. I bought the vr6 in october last year and when i test drove it they guy was totally honest and said, yeah, the clutch release bearing (or something similar) is a bit noisy, but then they all are arent they? i was too busy looking forward to driving like a nutter, and it really was very quiet. however, 6 months into ownership stuff like this spoils the fun and i want to get it sorted. especially noisy when just started. really noticeable if you give the throttle a quick stab. its not the chains is it?
  11. Mine does this. I work in acoustics so it shit me to tears. I got a friend to depress the clutch whilst i stuck my head in engine bay and it really really is the slave cylinder . you can feel it shudder if you put your hand on it whilst clutch is being depressed. I hvaent changed it yet, but will get round to it. how much is a slave cylinder in UK? Will cost a mint here in Sydney. The main symptom apart from noise is a jerky/staged clutch action, just to make sure we are talking the same thing.
  12. Just received and had painted a venom sport front 2 bar debadged grille and venom spoart air intakes to replace crappy black plastic things on lower front bumper. The grille is alright i suppose, in that it fits, but one edge ducks too far back and doesnt line up with front wing. The air intake things look great painted but are a pain to fit, The bolt eventually goes in with out cross threading. When fitted, they sit proud of the bumper. I was wondering if anyone has tried getting these properly integrated into the bumper, ie fixed from inside the bumper, smoothed and blended in and then paint
  13. one week is good - try 5 months! i installed pretty much the same JL kit, and im chuffed with it even after a bloody long time taken to install, so youll be thrilled at only a week!
  14. I have yet to do an install in my vr but i spent 5 months on the install in my jeep grand and it is all JL. JL is flipping brilliant. They even do there own line of stealth boxes and the one for the jeep uses a single bolt into the wheel arch. Probably good for a 4wd but a bit of a worry if you are worried about rubbing tyres on a dropped vr.
  15. When I bought my vr it came with a free piece of missing boot carpet in the same spot - i think it was a dealer fir location - ie, where can we put the changer where it is most likely to get damaged, skip and scar the interior...
  16. Just found out that the challenge are not available as 17 x 8 either with a pcd 5x 100. So that stuffs that then!
  17. Hi All, First Post! I am looking to fit new wheels on my pride and joy '98 vr6 - last one sold in Australia allegedly with 67,000 kms (40k miles !) I have narrowed the choice down to BBS Challenge or OZ Superturismo GT The BBS are by far the more expensive, but better looking. The problem is that the 17 x 7.5s (available in Germany and USA, smallest advertised in UK are 8.5s) are only available as pcd 5x112. The 8.0s are available as 5x100 which obviously begs the question, will they rub, foul, gind clonk or otherwiwse be too much trouble under ANY driving conditions? I should point out I hav
