  1. Hello all. I am struggling to find anywhere that sells a technical manual for the VR6 engine. basically I want to know what all the engine bits are called, where they are and what they do, as I am fast becoming allergic to garage mechanics and their bills. Ta. mik.
  2. Eh up. I've been reding the odd post and I wonder if I'm using too thin an oil type. I thought I'd treat the old gal to some Synta GOLD but I wonder if I should be using Synta SILVER as the car is a bit smokey at times.
  3. sounds like it's being starved of air by constant cold-start fuel/air mixture. Pull the sensor lead off the Idle Stabilisation Valve when the car stalls when hot. If the car will then start, take the ISV off and soak it in WHITE SPIRIT (nothing stronger like turps) and see if any black muck comes out of it. Once it's had a good clean put it back on and see... Otherwise I'm not sure, but it deffinately sounds like too rich fuel or choking to me. mik.
  4. As the title suggests my car coughs out a load of black smoke when I accelerate away after going down hill off the gas. Is it sucking oil past the rings or could it be valve stem oil seals... please not the rings. Ta. Mik
  5. There's a clue to the popping and farting on decelaration... If you remove thr cat you reduce back-pressure in the exhaust hence the noises. If your Idle Stabilisation Valve is duff the car will have idle problems when running either hot or cold. If this is the case you could try removing the sensor connection when the car is running and see if there's any change.
  6. Your splutterring on decellaration is probably down to removing the cat. You have reduced back-pressure in the exhaust and that's what's causing the popping and farting. If the Idle stabilisation valve is kaput you should ntice a difference in idle between hot running and cold starts. You should have a problem ticking over in one of these conditions. Try removing the sensor and see if the idle improves? (it's under the back of the plug-lead plastic carrier, above the exheaus manifold)
  7. not really a plan to put a VR into a Syncro... not the strongest transmission in the world and aren't they all 5 doors? Better finding a G60 Syncro witha knackered motor as these are three doors and have the running gear from the Rallye.
  8. is there an icon or tab which brings up all new posts in every section since your last visit? Saves you trawling through each section looking for green blobs.
  9. Hello y'all. My 2.8 (dizzy) Vr6 has developed a top-end knocking since being off the road for a few months... sounds like a hydraulic tappet or something. Could this be the case? Also the idle hunts so badly on start up that it's difficult to keep the engine running at all. Once the car is warm it is no problem. I took the sensor off the ISV and the car started a little better but would not run whan hot. I changed the ISV and this has made no difference. Could air be getting in elsewhere??? Cheers for any advice. mik. ?!
  10. just sounds like someone blowing raspberries down a bog roll to me?
