daniles 0
Hi, I'm new to the site, read through a lot of the posts last night and got some great ideas on what to do to my VR6 Highline, went out this morning to go buy some bits and bobs for it and the engine was running s**t, i had taken off the k&n filter off before hand to see if i could see the MAF but not being able to see nout I replaced the filter minutes later, when i started the engine the car felt like it was only running on e few cyclinders, i checked the leads but all were fine and after 30 secs it stopped and started runinng fine, i done about 5 miles in it and as i went round a bend i lost all the power and the car started running like a tractor again, called the AA man out and he said it sounded like my big end!!! The car does start but sounds like something really bad!Anyone on here had a similar problem? I got a slight incling towards the MAF sensor which i have suspected is faulty over the last week but would this make the engine run like a tractor? Spoke to a couple of VW speialists and they've said it wouldn't be the big end if it started working again after the first time it went. Car is currently in garage waiting for someone to have a look at it only problem is garages round here like to make up things that are not really wrong with it, just to squeeze some extra pennies out of you! Thanks in advance for any info on this. franchise 1
Seems to be a common occurance at the moment this. Bet she runs ok when cold though eh? It's gonna be a vr specific prob and one that everyone has had or have so I wouldn't trust your local garage if they aint vr clued up. Do a search for splutter/spluttering and have as good read, the fixes aren't expensive.
Petesvw 0
Did you plug the MAF back in right?
mk3anni 0
Get it on vag com, check for arking around the leads, check for wet plugs, pull the MAF off and check its not filthy, make sure the connections on the MAF are clean, check for cracks in the coil pack.....for starters! daniles 0
Thanks guys, never touched the MAF sensor just tried lookin inside the filter to see if i could see it, definitely made sure the filter was on properly afterwards, can't understand it coz it went like this first thing after a night sat up then stopped and five miles later it started again. really cant see it being the big end as when that goes it goes! Keepin my fingers crossed it isnt something too expensive. By the way whats ISV stand for? Thanks again guys really didn't want to kick start off my memebrship with s**t loads of questions like this lol!

matth76 1
Whats your location? If you're in the midlands or north I would take a visit or at least call Stealth Racing. If you live anywhere in the south pay a visit to The Phirm. They are two of the best companies around that specialise in the VR and are half the price of main dealers - but 10 times more experienced! Either should be able to diagnose and fix your problem.

daniles 0
Just heard from the garage and they said they've done a compression check and one cylinder has no compression in it, could be lookin at dropped valve possibly, just hope the piston isn't damaged! daniles 0
The valve seat has come off and caused the valve to hit the piston and head so hard they're completely damaged! Lookin like i'm gonna be payin this one off for a long time. Anyone know where i can source a second hand head and piston from please? Euro Car parts quoted me £1550 for a new head!!!
