Bit of a noob thread but am thinking about longterm mods and am super intrigued by the Schrick manifold setups. Now I read that they don't give mega gains like a charger or turbo would but they do shift around the torque delivery and give the car a more useful and responsive pull throughout the whole rev range.

I think the Schrick looks awesome and sounds like a pretty bullet proof addition but, the question is, for the meaty price tag these things command are they really a good value for money mod?

I expect some serious learning from you this weekend Pete. :)

Cheers guys.

Can't give you any 'dyno' proof but CAN say it really makes a difference. Car pulls so much better all the way through the rev range that I don't need to drop gears to overtake anything like as much - unless I'm proving a point ;)

Fuel economy is much better too. All this is without a remap or cams too - would no doubt be even more impressive with those.

I got mine off eBay for £900 nearly new, which I'm happy with now I know how much difference it makes. They're £1300 new from Stealth plus fitting (I did mine myself), so that might make a difference to how worthwhile it is to you. They do come up occasionally on the Bay and seem to go for around £850-£1000 most times.

A charger would definitely give you bigger power, but they seem like a lot of hassle and risk to me - but that's only my opinion.

I would say, if you get a decent 2nd hand one at a reasonable price rather than paying full new price, you'd be happy.

Good luck - it took me months to decide!

mine gave 235 lb ft at 3500 rpm up from about 160 lb ft at 3500 pre schrick i miss it alot it was like a small turbo 70-90 in 5th was just silly hehe

235 lb/ft torque is roughly the same as a stage one ZR charger! Obviously not the same bhp but very nice torque increase. Eat this, did you get rid off your shrick?

Does anyone know who or where I could source a second hand shrick? Does NS Racing sell them (tried ringing them several times but always get no answer)? Anyone here selling one sometime soon?

The only "downside" I see is the 2-3 hour job just to change the spark plugs.

I'm still a learner with my vr so won't be doing anything serious for a good while yet, I really do like the schricks though. I know a charger would give the kick in the pants wanted, but I've heard they are a right arse to get sorted and get running spot on, whereas once the schrick is in you're good to go for a long while.

I'm looking into getting a stainless 6 branch and de-cat zorst for now (have a bmc coming soon too :-p ) which will give me good gains for small coin. I don't fancy going nuts with turbos or chargers, keep it na. Perhaps I could do this, then save and slap a schrick in there too.
