gazbrook 0
My car is in the garage again, engine problems (covered with the guarantee luckily) I am getting that annoyed with my car that i am either gonna get a different car(nissan skyline or toyta supra),or do mine up seriously, a supercharger or turbo is on the cards next but i want a 4wd car because of the dodgy high speed handling of my car on the twistys. I know its not gonna be cheap but does anybody know how much it would cost and where would do it?? I was GUESSING around £4,000, it might seem silly money but a 3 litre supercharged or turbo 4wd golf would be a bit of a monster. I am seriously considering this as i have just sold my house and bought a cheaper one, cheers[ Edited ]
acf8181 0
not worth it unless you're going over the 300bhp mark. a quaife ATB will be sufficient for 200-300bhp i'd say.
gazbrook 0
a supercharger should put me almost bang on 300 bhp with the 3 litre conversion i have already had, if i turbo'd it would be even more!! I was considering a quaife lsd , i might try that first as it would save me a fortune, and is and atb an anti torque bias?? [ Edited Tue Jun 01 2004, 09:14PM ]
rwilkinson 0
was there a vr6 syncro?
gazbrook 0
yep 2.9 vr6 which is a 4x4 saw one going for £6000 which is worth it really ,because they are rare and also the bonus of 4 wheel drive,if i hadn't paid for the engine conversion i would have bought it myself
Guest Olly_K
arent they all left hand drive though ?
acf8181 0
yep, they ain't uk models. very rare.ATB = automatice torque biasing, believe they are slightly better than an LSD (limited slip diff).you gotta rememeber a 4wd system is gonna add a weight penalty...so you have to have enough of a bhp gain to compensate for it.i'd say go the diff route first, but if you really want 4wd try and find a syncro. Macca 1
Dont mean to be boring, but if youre having a load of problems with the car already, is turboing it and converting to 4wd going to help?Maybe selling up is a better option, especially if youre wanting 4wd. gazbrook 0
the car has been pretty reliable in general , it was only when grant motorsport got their hands on it thats its been playing up, it appears that they have overbored my car too much, the piston fit is too slack, (probably need a new bottom end, which is free as they did the work)once this is rectified i will/should be ok, in my heart i would rather spend a fortune on my vr , the beauty of modding it up to fast speeds is that any turbo car driver would think that i wouldn't give them any problems,as it is a pretty standard looking golf, its worth the extra money just to see the look on their faces
