Protecting my front Bumper

Recommended Posts

I know that theres some kind of transparent thick vinyl that can be applied to the fronts of cars - a mate of mine has that on his Porsche & another on a Ferrari so there must be a company out there thats selling kits or rolls of it - their cars already had it applied. It protects across the bonnet mainly but is also on the bumper of the Porsche

These things are very popular on Yanky cars so it may be an idea to try and source one from there.

Where to look is another matter though. This is something I would really like to get hold of to as my car hits the bodyshop next wednesday for some work and I would like to keep it nice for as long as possible.

However the problem I have is an RS4 front bumper which will no doubt make my search even harder than those with a standard bumper..... :-(

Did anyone else read that the way I read it?!??? LOL

Back to the problem at hand, an alternative is to get the bodyshop to put LOTS of coats of lacquer on the front bumper, grille & bonnet. I spoke to several people at Ultimate Dubs about this problem and this is what most of them recommended.

Sure, respray work ain't cheap, but that professionally fitted plastic coating looks like it would be quite expensive too...

Surely using lots and lots of Laquer would just cause the Laquer to chip instead?

It would not look as bad as as actual paint being chipped but still possibly noticable. I think that Vinyl wrap may also have this probem. If a stone hits something it is going to cause some damage/chipping/scratching.

The Ideal solution is a full front cover but I still cannot find one anywhere without having one custom made......Perhaps still cheaper than reprays all the time...

£500 yikes!! For that I could get a second bumper' date=' get it sprayed, and keep it just for shows....

Yep very true......

More suited to cars that have integrated bumpers I think :(

BTW: Whilst on the subject of front bumpers...... ;)

What do you guys use to attach you number plates? I noticed at the show they all get removed but they HAVE to go back on when on the road so how do you make sure they stay on whilst driving but are easily removed for shows wothout leaving sticky crap or peeling paint/laquer with it?

A special sticky pad? :?

My number plate has a cloth around it so it doesnt scrath the paint work and is held on by cable ties ;):P Eventually I'm getting a smallish motorbike plate for the front of mine soon and were gonna make some tiny brackets so its easy to screw it on and take it off :)

Motorbike plates street legal?

I like the sound of that. :-)

Although I still don't really have a good way of mounting. :-( I have no lower plastic valance on my bumper to fix anything to and the mesh prevents me from cable tying it to the car :-(
