purple highline monster 0
check this out for a string of bad luck!!! drove 100 miles non stop in my vr6... no problems whatsoever......car then stood for 5-6 days in a car park, battery goes flat!!!!! got it charged and started & drove it a few miles to some local shops....on the way back..... steam/smoke pissing out from under the bonnet! checked it out and found the main hose on the rear of the head was weeping...100 miles from home & no local garages! bit the bullet took the hose off found a small split in it!!!! i took a chance and cut about an inch off and re clamped it!!!, perfect no leaks at all, job done i thought!!!!! started up... car now miss firing like a barstard!!!! it had missed occasionally in the past but only minor, this was full on 5 cylinder motoring!!! i guessed it was just a bit of water from the leak down the plug hole in the middle at the back of the head? i run the car for 1/2 hour and it seemed it had cleared ok? come to drive it home 100 miles the day after and low and behold miss fire is worse than ever! although it was ok at certain revs whilst driving, took it into Ridgeway VW main dealers at Reading and told them of my plight.......guess what... yep they told me they wouldnt look at it as "they were very busy" nice to be busy but it dosnt help a loyal customer out who is stuck a long way from home with a problem with their car!! wankers, anyway i got the car home between 60mph and 80 and it was ok as long as it wasnt under acceleration load it behaved itself, thankfully!!!! upon re checking all the obvious things one of the plug caps was apparantly loose!!! but only because it had about an inch of water in the spark plug hole!!!!!!! now wonder it was miss firing!!! i blew the water out with an airline but my leads looked a bit ratty anyway so i put a new genuine set on and a new battery for good measure! car now runs perfectly again and starts first time!!!! just watch out if you ever change a water pipe!! those plug holes hold a lot of water and you cant see it!! hopefully thats my 3 lots of bad luck out the way!!!! !amazed

Earwig 89
Water always seems a problem, haha.I have an RS4 front bumper so I have no undertray to protect from rain spashing up underneath, as soon as it gets the electics just above the gearbox it starts to cough and splutter.A good old spray of wd40 should do the job but I always forget.......Until it rains again. It's not fun pulling away from a roundabout when the car doesn't want to go but you know HOW it SHOULD go.Anyway glad you got it sorted, and not to costly :-)
jb9999 0
Don't talk to me about bad luck mate! I must have been Satan himself in a former life and killed puppies just for a laugh. ~
dubloke 4
i had the very same pipe go on mine some time back on the return journey from inters. dumped a load of water onto the exhaust as i came off a roundabout racing a mk4 anni and i thought i'd blown it as clouds of smoke started pouring from the back of the car and the coolant light came on almost immediately. rac guy made a tempory fix by cutting down the split pipe and it lasted for over a year until i bought samco's. constantly checked it and it was always fine as there is a good degree of stretch in that hose anyway!
