matth76 1
What year is your VR6? If it's later than 1995 (M reg) onwards you will have no gain whatsoever with a superchip. What it will do is improve the drivability which can be a good thing. However there have been a few bad experiences of people using superchips. You are better of going to Stealth Racing, a VR specialist and will fit a remappable chip (called a 'rechip') for £300. Same price as a superchip but far better because your car can be remapped any time you want in the future when you add more mods to your car - the remap gets the most power from your mods...far better than a superchip. If your car is older than 1995 you will see a good power gain - up to about 10bhp. However a better way of spending your money if you do have an older vr6 is to get an enlarged throttle body "butterfly". This will be cheaper and give a very nice rise in power and torque. I've forgotten his name but there is a man on this forum (and also corrado-forums.net) who specialises in doing throttle body work and is very good - do a search on here or someone on here will know who I mean. However if you have a car newer than 1995 onwards then an enlarged throttle body will not be possible. A good mod is either a decat (a cat bypass pipe) or high flow cat (catalytic converter). Bear in mind a decat is illegal when it comes to mot time and needs to be replaced every time you have your test. Another good mod is an exhaust system. I have a high flow cat and exhaust system and made close to 195bhp on a rolling road. My car is a late model. I also have a tubular 6 branch manifold which I have fitted since - normally costs £300. My car is way faster than when I was last on the rolling road. Going to get it rolling roaded at the end of the month to see what gain it has made. One thing to bear in mind with induction kits on the VR6 is that they can suffer from heatsoak, as the engine bay in the vr gets far hotter than the average sports car - due to the big engine in a small space. You need a very good supply of cold air going to your induction kit, or better still fit a BMC induction kit which is protected from heat soak.Good luck with your car. matth76 1
Hi. Just looked up the bloke's email that he sent me. His name is Ian and his nickname is "Alpina". His email is Alpina527@aol.com However he did say enlarged throttle bodies/butterflies only have benefits for VR6's earlier than 1995. Won't work on later model vr's. By the way, VR6's earlier than 1995 are referred to as "OBD1", and VR's made from 1995 onwards are "OBD2". This just refers to the ECU (stands for on-board diagnostics). Basically if your car is an ODB1 then a throttle body mod will definitely see a 5-10bhp increase, maybe even more, depending on what is done to the throttle body. But Ian is the man to speak to mate. Not sure on cost - but it may be in the region of 100-150, again depends what you have done - but he'll explain all the options etc. But should be a worth while mod. A few other members on here have had throttle body work done by him and rate him well.CheersMatt

gav_113 0
hi, on the chip theme. i recently got a chip from advanced motorsports for £30. it hardly made any difference at all, the limiter is higher and it pulls a little better. my mate has a superchip in his and it is no way worth the money!
