masterginger 0
Had my car 3 weeks and put about 1000 miles on it. Recently there was a funny noise at about 1800rpm and a little rattle. I though it may have been timing chains and never thought to check the oil.........the oil level was halfway between nil and minimum!!!!!11 Rang nearest garage and they shut rang another and they shut rang vw specialist in dudley and they open, hooray!!! got down there as slow and hopefully as unstressful on the engine as possible and put in for a oil and filter change
mk3anni 0
VR's do use oil, its the nature of the beast, if the oil pressure light didn't come on you porbably got away with it. You might find it drinks a bit more synta gold than you'd expect, most of us tend to use Synta Silver, its a bit thicker.
VR6Pete 1,455
Did you check the oil when you bought the car?

jaysVR6 2
Oil level light is there for a reason fella. Although it should never be used! You should be fine. As long as you didn't thrash the hell out of it wilst it was low.

purple highline monster 0
oops! most vw engines use around a litre of oil for every 1000 miles!! on average, my mark one`s and the rallye used around this amount but my VR6 dont seem to use any!! mind i dont use it every day and when i do its never really ragged too much, just keep an eye on the dipstick level over a month or so and see what its doing, on mk 1 golfs you could disconect the wire from the sender and the oil buzzer and light would sound, so you knew it was working, i dont have a clue if the vr is the same? someone on here should know??
