This is a quick thread about the rear end of the mk3.

I've recently bought a mk4 rear aero wiper to find it doesnt fit (taste and see ). After looking around a bit there are only a few options to my knowledge that are available for our rear window *style*.

1. stock

2. de 'wiper' - no idea what this involves but i can asume it involves a body shop and filler.

3. punto mk2 rear wiper - after doing a bit of a search for these i've disovered that they look quite good on our cars.

4... ? - thats all lol.

the problem with the mk3 is that the wiper spindle sits below the window line so you need a donor car that has the same configuration....

anyone got any decent alternatives for the rear window? (baring stickers ).

just to add, fiat marea weekend rear wiper fits too.

im not sure if the wash facility works with these though... :/

I've been thinking about this too (i don't fancy removing the rear wiper completely)

Might sound stoopid but why doesn't the mk4 aero fit?

Is it something to do with the angle of the arm? Doesn't fit onto the motor splines? Or all the above?

I'm keeping an eye out for an alternative to the punto wiper but like you say most cars now have the wiper arm connected to the motor directly through the window.

the mk4 doesnt fit becuase the spindle (the bit the wiper turns on) is higher than the spindle for the mk3, so the mk4 aero wiper sits too low, fine if you want it to wipe your paint work

nerih, dont mean to sound as though i'm taking the piss, but have u looked at a mk4 rear wiper? it goes thru the screen, so, unless you know of somewhere that does this mod, i'd say it defo wont go!

i understand its lookings better, but surely if its covered in crap (which in the winter it does) it doesnt look 'cleaner' lol, are you renegaded to cleaning it by hand?

no wiper?? don't understand it, how can you see anything when it's pissing down?? Which is common in this country? Some mods just aren't practical if you ask me!

Driving a van for a living, i get used to not having a rear view mirror. The 2 wing mirrors are more than adequate for rear sight. I'm thinkin of getting rid of the rear wiper on mine when it eventually goes into the shop.

And just on the mk3 note, imo, no spoiler, no wiper combi looks sweet as.

problem is my rear view cam doesnt work if the rear glass isnt clear + my vr6oc sticker isnt as clear either...

I believe a pug 106 rear wiper fits....someone on here has done it

havent had any visibility problems... I clean the car every week and its fine

Rear view camera? do u have parking sensors as well?

Got rid of mine too, as long as you keep you car reasonably clean and set your wing mirrors up well it causes me no problems on my Mk2 GTI or my VR.

no parking sensors, just the rear view camera, it stops chavs racing up my arse when i have people in the car who dont like 'speed', since you can yourself on it when tailing me (if i have it on lol).

ive been looking for a punto mk2 to look at, but i cant see any parked anywhere near my house, i guess i'll have to go to a dealer.

i would agree that the de-wipered look is sweet, don't think i've used the rear wiper since i've had the new motor anyway still trying to work out what the button with the curved arrow on next to the air con button is

ive decided i have a love hate relationship with polishing...love the result but i'm forever finding imperfections in the paintwork only someone with OCD would find!

while i was in milton keynes i didnt mind a monday morning wash, usually took a couple of hours.

in london, zero time for washing, instead it goes to the valeter, who usually scratches the paintwork.

aah ,you see the key is, i put the wax on and my girlfriend polishes it off

so it only takes an hour to wash,leather,cleanse,and polish!

lol, anyways, back on topic, i phoned up the fiat breakers in southwark to find they have plenty of wipers and will let me try before i buy, if they fit good, i'll buy a few and sell them on, they only cost a 10 bucks so its not a big'un. The only thing i need to check is that they have holes for the washer jet, becuase if not, then there isn't any point.

I don't think they have holes for the washer jet, the jet is separate on a punto - certainly was on the one i was following into work today

I imagine you could drill out a hole in the plastic nut cap, on the punto wiper, for the washer jet (fiddly but do'able i would think)

just went to the swg website (LOLOL) becuase i heard they did wipers, only for the mk2, but they got this

(they are selling the vw cover lol, urgh) so i *think* thats the punto wiper.

i saw a few puntos today and they have the jets on the roof, spraying down.
