awesome-gti doing honda stuff

Honda's are garbage, driven by utter morons, revving the tits off them everywhere so they can hear the V-TEC. Luckily none of them are wise enough to run them in after buying them so it won't be long before they all start blowing up and giving the rest of us some peace.

Slim, I take it you've driven one? A Type R? They do have torque buy like the Toyota twin cam engines, the real power is in the upper band. True, a properly driven VR from standstill will take a Type R out but then you have to be lucky to be at standstill or at optimum revs otherwise the Type R may well take the VR. The VTECH engine is an impressive peice of engineering. It is economical (for the performance) powerful, and practically bullet proof. It is one of the few engines to consistantly provide high levels of performance without exceeding the emissions levels. Unfortunatly, the law insists on a CAT for every post 93 engine :(

Take a look at the S2000, the most powerful NA 4 cylinder 2 litre production engine. Or the NSX. I'm a Jap car fan (don't mind em) but you can't takle it away from Honda...

agreed the type r's and v-tech's in general are well built engines, but tbh no match for a vr in most circumstances. if you dont mind cog swapping on the road like a tazmanian devil then you will be outstripped on the "hop" by a lot more machinery than a normal vr! i have driven several of these type r's in civic and integra models and tho impressive once in the power band, 6k-9k, anything outside of that is like trying to go faster on a bike with no chain! it just doesnt have enuff torque to stir the revs quick enough. anything with over 50lbs less torque than power is always going to struggle in the in gear charge on the road. granted if u thrash it to the limiter in every gear once in the band, it will not embarrass itself, but its not the tool everyone thinks it is out on the road! the civic has got one of the best gearshifts of all time tho, imo!

i did a rolling road day with my vr and there was a type r civic on the rollers too. it was making 200bhp, it was impressive. we compared figures, the torque figure on my graph starts at 142lbs/ft his max torque didnt even reach that!!

goes to show that they depend almost totally on revs. im a jap car fun as well. i friend of mine has an s2000 and that thing is bolistic but again you really need to use the gears to get the power and speed.

buy a turbo charged jap car and you got the best of both worlds.
