J5KE F 0
Can any1 reccomend a supplier of uprated pistons and rings?I think the time has come to start the bottom end!
Ultimatetune 0
give us a pm email or phone call and we can sort you out with any compression and forged for a good price
VRmonster 1
got my 3.0l JE 9.0:1 CR pistons from hp motoring in the US (they sell on ebay.) worked out at about
FishWick 21
That's a good price for those. Can you get cast Mahles for a 3.0 build? Seems to be conflicting advice on that. What about cranks from the states, do they do any? ABT used to do a nice forged steel one which with the right combination of rods and pistons could achieve 3.3. With the standard rods, a 3mm head gasket and standard pistons shaved 1mm (not ideal as it throws the cam timing - need to get verniers) gives you 3.1I love VRs, so much you can do with them :-)
J5KE F 0
So whats the ratio? and what's the standard spec? it's all new to me!
VRmonster 1
JAKEstandard piston size for a 2.8 is 81mm bore, at 10:1 compression ratio.JE do a number of pistons with varying spec.bores81mm - 2.8l82mm - 2.9l83mm - 3.0l (ish, 2.95l)83.5mm - real 3.0l (3.045l or something)compression ratios.10:1 - standard9:1 - turbo/supercharger11:1 (i think) - NA high powered tuning.all very similar prices, just made to order, but only takes a week or so in most cases.KEVnever really looked into the cranks as i just wanted a low cost rebuild to lower compression, but thought if im taking it apart may as well take it out to 3.0lid imagine the abt to be very expensive, and not really worth doing a 3.1 stroker as id expect to see minimal power gains without a mean list of other mods too. much prefer to spend the cash on a BVH as airflow is where torque is made. so a good rebuilt head is better than any block mods. as you probably already know.as for the mahles, i was offered a 2nd hand set from the states but they were an 83.5 with a CR or 9.5 so not really what i was after, only done 2k miles apparently but he wanted to go stroker so had a custom set made to take it to 3.2 with the abt crank, ill see if i still have his post and find out where he got his and for how much. FishWick 21
Yeah the big valve heads do make a worthy difference. I've seen a Rado with a Schrick, 248s, BV head (schrick), big throttle and AmD map make 230hp with 235lb/ft. Stealth made a 3.1 a while back with BV head etc and I think that kicked out about 250 bhp.I think 3.0 with FI is a better route than all motor and yeah, the ABT crank was well over
J5KE F 0
Hmmm decisions..The car is now at the workshop, and they are removing the lump this week.I have to decide where to go by weds. Being charged, i think the 9:1 ratio is best, and already being a 2.9, the 83's. I will pm rob at ultimate tune and see if he can get the 83.5's cos i dont want to have to remove the engine again!, What's the general concensus on balncing the crank? obviously funds are now getting scarce, but again i dont want to have to pay another
Nerih 0
9:1 if you want over 280bhp m8, mine is on the limit with 10:1 and 291bhp...its gonna have to have a gasket in to lower the compression.
J5KE F 0
Yeah, I had a double head gasket, when the top end was built. Have had major problems with the bottom end running 12psi boost! still i was expecting something to go wrong and should have got it done rather than rushing it back in!!.Lucky i hadn't introduced the n20.!!At the same time shes in the workshop, i think i'll put my standard cams back in. - what ones are you running nerih? oneday it would be good to have a meet up with two mulbery sc's!
