bigladvr6 0
this may sound like an obvious question but here it goes anyway:-How do u refill the cooling system with new antifreeze after emptying and flushing it?How do i get the antifreeze mix into the bottom end of the engine before start up? and is there any bleed nipples on the cooloing system?many thanksbigladvr6 !grr
antera309 3
Bleeding is not necessary, just pour a 50/50 mix of G12 coolant & distilled (de-ionised) water into the fluid reservoir until the level stops going down. Then start the engine and add more until the level stops going down again.

FishWick 21
The VR is prone to air locks, don't what ever you do fill the coolant up via the expansion tank.Don't use 50/50 either, too much glycol reduces the water's ability to absorb heat. Go with a 60/40 water to G12+ mix maximum. I use 65/35 personally. The water pump will slosh the mix up, so don't worry about that.Don't forget to drain the block by unscrewing the drain plug on the plastic transfer pipe. It's above and the left of the oil filter housing. When you've emptied the coolant out, refill via the radiator top hose. This drives air out from the bottom of the block up and out through the expansion tank. Filling via the tank pushes air down with it. This is how VW do it.Keep pouring until you see fluid appear in the expansion tank. Put the top hose back on, top up to minimum, drive the car for 20 mins, top up in the morning and you're done. stockers 1
i'm changing my coolant as some numpty put blue coolant in, do i need to flush with distilled water after i have drained it before i put my new coolant in ?
andy 0
I wouldn't bother with distilled water, just use normal water, its well worth flushing though, mixed antifreeze can cause problems, ie corrosion.
