Hi there guys, my cars been acting very ill and doesn't move, a 16valver is able to leave me for dust.

so got the car checked out, and what has come up is the clutch needs replacing (as the clutch is slipping) and the leads and plugs etc.

just wanted to find out what is the best clutch for the VR (for performance etc) I've been told about the sachs etc,

also i've been told about the flywheel, if this is changed (cant remember the name but cost around 400-500) it can cut a second or two of my 0-60? true or false?

if you guys could give your ideas and advice would be great

What milage is you car on? It must have been ragged in the past if it's reasonably low milage..... Mine was on 86K and I hade it replaced when I had the chains done' date=' the old clutch looked as good as new when it was taken out!

Mines only done mm 82k now, :| , whts the score with it? why do you say a standard vw clutch instead of a sachs or luk clutch :? ?

Also do you knw anything about the flywheel etc

People with sachs and luk clutches have experienced a lot of clutch judder. The VW clutch is better designed and manufactured and will give a nice smooth operation. Worth the extra money. I've got a luk clutch and it's really juddery! Incidently, my clutch was replaced at 80k.

You can fit a lighter flywheel (fidanza) which will make the car rev faster and give a bit better response.

Yes you can try a lightened flywheel. I would personally go for a lightened and slotted flywheel. Either after market or take your flywheel down to a machine shop and have it done and balanced properly. Any good machine shop will also check for fine cracks which could cause a flywheel to explode. You willl notice the difference in that blipping the throttle at standstill will redline your rev counter much much quicker. i.e you will have created a more free reving engine with less inertia to overcome due to flywheel mass.

a lightened fly wheel reduces torque, i thought....becuase the engine's momentum is less, i.e you'll have to work her harder whilst going up a hill.i wouldnt bother tbh, if you're that interested in bhp, go for a s/h shcrick itll be cheaper prolly & chip..

i heard good things about the fidanza flywheels from people who've bought them- for the price i dont think you would be making a bad move at all- and if the clutch needs replacing then may as well get it done at the same time. If you have to get new leads- make sure you get magnecor silicone ht leads- they're the best available and come with a 10 year warranty!

I didnt think and got a cheep shitty clutch from GFS. Although i carnt tell the difference tbf. Cars only got about 190bhp though

My car had done 142,000 when i change the cluch due to my diff coming though my casing causing oil to piss everywhere. Cluch still looked good and drove good with about 2mm left before the rivits.

Get a standard clutch from VW. Don't get a sachs or Luk clutch.

luk make oe vw as well as other marqes about 70% or so of luk is oe vw the rest is made up of other inc sachs (i think) but i do know about the luk i used to sell them but u could get hold of luk tech free phone call but cant rember number they give out free tech advice on fitting properley etc if the garages were having problems
