Guest Olly_K
well, i have koni coilovers......and the ride is harsh. apparently the best bet is Koni/eibachs.but heard good things about H&R too !that dont help you much does it ?
Guest couzens
Can't decide matey. Had H&R on the MK2 and was a bit harsh until I put eagle F1's on then it was brilliant. Am tempted cos the koni's are adjustable and I'm not keen on adjustable stuff, but I've heard Koni/Eibach is the best for the Golf. Someone convince me. Whose got H&R? six appeal 53
I've got Koni's and they are a bit hard even when turned down, never tried H & R, but have only heard good things about them.
vr6ed 0
Benn pondering this myself for a while. AFter consulting my father (used to be a supspension importer) have decided to go for Boge Turbo Gas struts and Eibach spring set up. Thought I'd be a bit different!
jamieVR6 0
I'vr got koni struts & springs. They are quite firm, only harsh on really bad surfaces when it causes my cd's to jump so i just turn it off & listen to the engine. Had avo coiloves on my last car (honda civic, please don't laugh) & found them terrible so will never go the coilover route again. Heard great things about the H&R stuff, but didn't have much choice when getting the koni's as the standard rear struts had just let go & nearly tipped me over on the motorway so needed the 1st ones that were in stock. Probably no help to you in deciding which to go for though. lol!
acf8181 0
bilstein sprintline are good ride, but i've decided i'm gonna get a gmax kit when i can be bothered - i don't wanna spend silly money, and want ride quality.
Guest couzens
Ok checked out the H&R kit today and for the VR6 its the same as on my 1.6 driver Mk2; a 60mm drop at front, 40mm at rear. I am a little worried cos I found 60 a little low for the Mk2. Considering the v6 lump is a lot heavier than the 1.6 and likely to sit lower, do you reckon this is a wise choice or is the sump going to be chinning itself along the ground??? I am intend to use standard 15" wheels.[ Edited Mon Apr 05 2004, 08:01PM ]
madmonkee 0
i got K+W's varient 2's they are mint, very hard even at low settings. But corners like a div, summit to do with powerflex bushes an eibach antiroll bars, an eagle F1's.
Chris355 0
i've got the koni/eibach with eibach antiroll bars and standard 15" wheels and they will shake your fillings out and make CDs skip on a bad road, but on good roads they are great, had many a vectra SRi try and follow me in to roundabouts. Guest couzens
Ok, update is I've gone for Bilstein sprintline shocks and H&R springs = £460 delivered. Hope this works out well as I remember last year my H&R kit on the Mk2 contained bilstein shocks despite having H&R on the outside. Let me know what you all think. Car should be 30-35mm lower now as well.
FishWick 21
Got Koni TAs and H&Rs on mine. The two work perfectly together, almost as if they were made in collaboration between the two companies. I've yet to find a setup that offers the best compromise between ride comfort and handling......and I've tried quite a few!The H&R sport springs are often confused with their Race springs, which are VERY hard. The Sport springs are fine, far from harsh.Kev
andy 0
Can you tell me how much the H&R springs lower the car below standard.
Guest couzens
30-35mm on their own I was told
Guest couzens
Kev, or anyone else, how do you tell the difference between the H&R springs. Anyone know any part numbers. They do OE sport springs, Sport Springs and race springs. Its the middle ones, sport springs, I hope I've ordered but just wondering if I may get sent the OE springs instead. Any one know?
