Bit of an update on the car. Got back to work on it on Saturday spent a couple of hours trying to get the 3 bolts on the exhaust flange before where the cat would normally go undone. They were rusted and were not budging at all! Ended up leaving them and coming back the next day with a Dremel and cutting them off.

Last night we managed to get the engine out of the car. Its currently sat on my garage floor. I bought one of these engine stands you can buy from machine mart but does anyone know what size bolts I would need to mount the engine to the stand? Do they have to be a certain type to take the weight?

  • 2 weeks later...

Not really updated this as much as i should have. Been really busy with work.

I'm probably just over a quarter of the way through the project now. The engine is out and on a stand. All the ancillaries are off and today i got round to taking the head off. I did notice something which does not look to good. Does anybody have any idea what could be the cause of all the oil around the valve in the picture...

Couple of other updates. I have dropped off the gearbox to a gearbox specialist in the area, he will be fitting the Wavetrac differential i have bought.

Also picked up some Brembo calipers which came off a Seat Leon Cupra R. I bought these after following some advice from a mate who said they would fit straight on but i now know this will not be the case. I will see what work is involved when i am ready for them to go on. In the meantime i had them powder coated red as they were originally yellow.

Since i had the calipers powder coated i've had this really bad urge of getting a lot of other stuff powder coated red too. My short air intake has been done and next week i will be dropping off the alternator bracket, alternator casing and the new aluminium rocker cover which i have just bought as my original one is plastic. In the beginning when i started this project i was not really to bothered about what everything was going to look like but now i have changed my mind and am going for a black and red theme.

Hey it looks cool in stainless mate. Too much black under the bonnet hides everything. Let it stand out. Haha.

Shit man 4k. Ermmmm this might have to be a silent project for me. The less the misses knows the better. Hahahaha.

Probably just collect it in bits and it won't hit the pocket hard that way. Lol.
