as title, is it necessary to skim the golf vr6 2.8 cylinder head? my headgasket is weeping and im replacing with a metal gasket and decompression plate!

if yes how many MM safely get away with skimming it for? or will i be ok?? it doesnt overheat now and no oil / water mixing.

I always recommend getting a head skimmed and pressure tested if its been removed. More for peace of mind rather safe than sorry. But as for how many mm I wouldn't know as we outsource the job to a local specialist.

for peace of mind i may do it, will ring some places tomorrow!

If its pitted then go to the depth of the pit (within reason) as same goes for warpage. If yhe decks smooth then just take the top layer of dirt off. A good specialist should be able to advise
