vr6turbo 27 Posted May 31, 2014 Report Share Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) I have changed a few power steering pumps on vrs in my timethis problem takes the biscuitthe story goesbeen having a problem with the car pulling left all the timeso I decided to change the power steering rack and pumpengine outnew rack infilled the reservoir with vw fluid and primed the new pumpstarted the engine all fine power steering working greatswitched off and restarted no PS now when I rev the engine to about 3500 rpm the PS works a littlebut at idle it does not work I have fitted 2 brand new pumps both have the same problemchange the fluid replaced the pressure pipeblown out all the hoses and cleaned them I then took the pump off removed and inspected the relief valvetook the spring out refitted the relief valve and springrefitted the pump hey presto all working again at tick overrestarted the car same again no PS at tick overWTFany thoughts appreciated come to the conclusion that the pumps knackered as it is squealing like a goodun now Edited June 1, 2014 by vr6turbo Link to post Share on other sites

Reaperx 181 Posted June 3, 2014 Report Share Posted June 3, 2014 To bleed the system take the lid off the reservoir and lock the car side to side with the wheels on the floor. Then switch the car off leave the cap off and let the fluid settle should be quite frothy as it lets the air escape then just repeat a few times until you are happy with it.
