MrP 0
VR6 passed MOT this week which I was chuffed about, but two days after the ABS light came on but with no other problems. Today I put my foot on the break and got a grinding noise from the wheel and vibration on the pedal. Kept coming and going.Any ideas before i start poking about? Just done a quick search on here and there's loads about ABS sensors but I'm guessing it's a bit more!!
russj249 2
Nope.. probably a sensor..My sensor has gone on mine, the hard vibrating pedal is just the ABS pump pulsing the system to stop the wheels from skidding. Basically because you have a dodgy sensor, it thinks one of the wheels is locked, so puts ABS on. You would also get it when pulling away or even just driving straight, this is most likely the traction control side of the ABS kicking in.You will need to get it plugged in to see which sensor it is. Before you change the sensor, make sure that all the teeth on the pick-up ring are all intact with no damage.
MrP 0
Fantastic advice, thanks. Don't suppose there is any way of turning off the ABS until i can get it plugged in?

MrP 0
Is it worth replacing all the sensors to be on the safe side?
russj249 2
Don't really make a difference really.. just might be a little expensive to do all of then just for the sake of 1 playing up.You could also pull the ABS relay out to disable it, can't remember which number it is though. MrP 0
Ok, it's been a while but i've got myself one of these fault code readers of eBay. The ABS hasn't made the grinding noise for a few weeks but the light is now on constantly. I've plugged the diagnostic in and it came back with no codes! Any other way of working out which sensor has gone?
MrP 0
Any ideas? Touch wood car is driving fine but light is still on.
CALICO 130
Get it vag-com'd eBay code readers clearly don't work if it's the pump it would flag up offside rear sensor.
russj249 2
I would have been able to help, but I don't have vag com anymore had it on an old laptop which broke so I just binned it! I'm only up the road from you in Kingswinford. There's a dyno place in wombourne that has a new version of VCDS.. I'm sure he'd chuck it on for you and tell you. The company is called Performance Torque, and specialise in VW Audi stuff. Have a word with Wil, they're numbers on their website.
