Caddyslammed 16
Ok i havent asked before specifically but many of you have been awesome in helping me out with my VR .But here i am, requiring help in time for UD.......Just took my car to a bodyshop, to organise the wheel refurb and a couple of touch ups, popped the bonnet to show the nice Supercharger, and was greeted by oil..... sprayed about, mainly downwards for some reason...?.Well as it stands this is a problem, oil level seems to be ok, and it looks reminiscant of the oil spray/leak that was apparent in jakes vento the day we took the charger off, those of you there will remember, and Bungy did a great repair/reseal job on the charger so we could get it back on my car that same day.It does look to be the same problem.... suggestions and any assistance welcome please!, (Bungy, Paul, Jake etc . ).Obviously we are heading fast towards just 2 weeks left till UD.....HELP !! cheers guys. spadam 7
Does it look like the seal has gone againDo you still have the spare seal
spadam 7
Could the oil feed line have a split sure this would be under pressure and could spray oil if there was a split
Caddyslammed 16
I do still have the spare seal, it's wet at the bottom of the new one that Bungy fitted, but maybe not as wet as it should be, the chassis leg issoakin maybe a hose has gone...?
Caddyslammed 16
Right I have taken the headlight out so I can see under the charger, yes it's wet down there but I'm pretty sure the hoses are ok, it's all pointing at the seal, I'll get a pic or two up shortly
Caddyslammed 16
OK, this pic illustrates quite well that it looks like the oil is coming from the bottom side of the seal.....There is no oil sprayed about with force anywhere, i mean none on the bonnet or belt, or on the engine block or bracket, just on the charger near the seal, underside of the charger, and its very wet on the chassis leg, under the charger, engine oil level is slightly down. I think this must have happened in the last 100 miles or so, and i have done nothing untoward to cause it i dont think....This pic shows underneath the charger, the oil return i believe, it doesnt look like it has been leaking....Hoses look pretty dry...cheers

legvw 0
Take the tension of the belt off the charger an check bearings for play. It's odd for a relatively new seal to fail unless there's another issue somewhere.

cabrioman 6
clean the oil off, leave headlight out, top the oil up and run it see if you can see where it is coming from dude then you will know if its the seal, oil feed or return etc etc
Caddyslammed 16
clean the oil off' date=' leave headlight out, top the oil up and run it see if you can see where it is coming from dude then you will know if its the seal, oil feed or return etc etc [/quote']thanks Tony, i'll do that .Just been out and took the tension off of the belt, and managed to get the belt off the charger pulley...I can feel no play at all in the shaft, feels gooooood . bungy 2
Seems a little bit strange for the new seal to have gone already but I wouldn't discount it. Give it all a clean up and run whilst watching to see where it is coming from. At least you have another seal just in-case. Bit disappointing though.
Caddyslammed 16
Could the belt be done up too tight?....
Caddyslammed 16
What kind of place would be able to fit a new seal if I get the the charger off?
Ben Seabrook 4
Stealth Racing would refurb them I think, very strange that the seal would have gone again
Caddyslammed 16
Used to use places like api and scoobyclinic etc, do find the prices at these specialists a little over inflated, when maybe a local hydraulic company or suchlike would do it to the same standard for fun
Ben Seabrook 4
Yeah agree about the prices for what is a fairly simple job, is the oil fed in relevant to the speed of the charger or is it a constant speed ?
Caddyslammed 16
Constant pressure I would say, straight off the filter housing
Ben Seabrook 4
Ah ok so then belt tension or anything shouldn't effect it, so it shouldn't be over filling itself, is it something simple like the return feed is blocked so oil is being forced out the casing ? bungy 2
How many miles has it done before it starting loosing oil and it might be worth checking your return line. Does it rtn to the sump and at what level?
cabrioman 6
has it got a restrictor in the feed line ???? thats what caused my turbo seal to go no restrictor !!!!
