Hi,

Was going down the local duel carriageway .I went to change gear and there was nothing, got to the lights to turn right again I went to engage first, nothing!! You can hear what sounds like the clutch plates rubbing together when I lift the clutch. Anyhow, got towed home by a pal. Any ideas anyone, seeing as my mechanical skills go as about as far as turning a key to start the engine!

Cheers

Tel

yer have a look where the drive shaft comes out the back of the wheel hub and give it a shake,,if it moves then theres you problem...be easier to turn your wheel to get better access....or you can have allok behind the engine from the top and look if there is a gap between the box and shaft again you can wiggle it from there...

not 100% sure if im honest, if your box is foobered, you can usually pick up a complete box for about £150, and its as simple as a box swap...2 hr job :) might as well do clutch while your there if its knocking on abit...

I may be able to help.. Mine did this last year, exact same discription of faults as mine.. At first i thought it was the box but infact it was the clutch. The very centre of the clutch which slides on to the splines of the engine broke away from the rest of clutch so all it was doing when putting in gear was turning the broken part on the clutch if that makes sence :-)

Yer, the broken part stays connected to the clutch sounds odd, but when i took it off, it took me a while to relise as it looked fine, till i put my finger throught the center of the clutch and span it around and the spline grips stayed still.

  • 2 weeks later...

My pal phoned me late evening to tell me, "yeah Tel, new gearbox needed, might aswell throw you a new clutch on also, you had better start sourcing a box". Gutted I was, got my iPad out, went on eBay and started the search.

The bas@$d had only sneaked quietly down my road, rang me up to wind me up. Waited a moment then revved loudly outside the house. I don't know who was more pleased me, or Cath! Jesus, she jumped out of her seat faster than me, shouting "that's my car". Anyhow, my smile has returned and I'm now a very happy boy!
