First drive in my VR6 TURBO!!!

Recommended Posts

holy shit its quick, lol. its running really bad and the brakes need bedding in, but i managed to have a little blast and its great. cant wait to have it tuned properly. woo hoo, im off out tonight to see if i can clock up a few hundred miles for the brakes. i dont think my wastegate is opening though because i managed to hit and hold 14psi on the way home, at 4000 revs in 3rd, he he. the wastegate is supposed to have a 9psi spring in it.

Quality!!

Can't wait to see pics!!!

Im tempted to go the full wack for my next feature and find a company to turbo mine! I got a 308bhp /402 LB/FT of torque Volvo T5 (RUNAROUND!) and even when my 2.9's supercharged, the T5 would beat it, so gotta think bigger to get it to go quicker!

Who's done the conversion for you and was much development needs on the bits you had, custom pipework, chip, injectors e.t.c?

k, im off out in it now, its got a small oil leak to sort first and then im gonna get some pics and videos, ill warn you now though, the car and engine bay are a mess as ive spent all of my money on getting her going.

heres a rundown on the spec.

Kinetic motorsport stage 1 Turbo Kit

Garrett TA3405 hybrid turbocharger

57 trim .60 A/R compressor side/.48 A/R stage 3 turbine side.

Tial 38mm wastegate

Bailey single piston Dump Valve

BMC CDA filter

bosch #30, 315cc injectors.

FSE Fuel Pressure Regulator

Split Second FTC1 piggy back ecu.

i was hitting and holding 16psi last night, but its on a standard block, my wastegate isnt opening for some reason so ill have to look into that also, im supposed to be running around 8psi.

no piping as of yet as its an un-intercooled kit, and it needs tuning so no bhp/torque figures yet.

media up soon.

oh, and i done the conversion myself, with a lot of modification as the kit was made for LHD, so needed a remote servo, and i had to chop most parts of the intake piping to fit the BMC CDA, and ive removed the MAF which isnt recommended, and now im running the whole car from the FTC1's MAP sensor, so its gonna be a bugger to tune. Its very smooth though, not one bit of jerky lag as far as i can see. the turbo starts spooling up at around 3K rpm, and is at a full 16 psi by 4.5K rpm.

yeah, im going to mess on with the wastegate now, if that doesnt sort it im going to get a controller and go about it that way, i can drive it conservatively at around 4-5 psi, so its not always hitting 16 psi, but the few times i toyed with people last night it just shot up. it is fun though.

FFS, im sich of this damn car, i have it on the road 5 minutes and i get a blowout on the front passenger side, lucky i was only doing 25mph. and an oil leak on the turbo return hose has worsened loads while i wait for a replacement hose, i may just shove a clamp on it. damn cars eh.

yeah, ive already managed to destroy a porsche carrera (not sure what engine), and a 260bhp mitsi evo. but im just not liking the 16 psi thing, the wastegate seems to open as and when it wants, i think the spring is too big, so im going to open it up and check it out.

and yes, i have a master plan. im rebuilding the engine in a month or so, and then ill be working on the bodywork and dress up. and i should be at the shows by summer. hopefully. i know its a late turnout but it cant be helped.

and the video clips are coming, but ive been a little busy sorting the few problems over the weekend so asap ill get em up.

thanks for the replies peeps.
