breeza18 0
hi all as title really, taking my mk2 vr6 to stealth for a remap by Vince, ive just fitted some 268 cams and a 6 branch so thought it was time for the remap any body got any tips or advice before i head down to stealth?? does he do club discount to members lolcheers Ash
bungy 2
For anything like that and if you are travelling distance, give the car a good check over for any visible faults, a quick vag com scan and ensure all your fluids etc are topped up and fresh. It all helps the process and saves time and dissapointment.
FishWick 21
Make sure the car is not too low and that the suspension geometry is good.If he can't get it on the dyno or if it pulls all over the shop cause of bad toe / camber, you will have wasted a journey. breeza18 0
its about a hour 1/2 half away so not to far, as for fluids i thought as much really, common sense i suppose. ive just run vag com and it pulled a few faults, non of them worry me except cam position sensor and knock sensor codes, hoping this was just cos ive played with the timing when doing the cams but gonna nip it out in a bit to see if they show up again. they didnt when i reved the car on the drive so fingers crossed
breeza18 0
hi kev spoke to vinsce and we think its high enuff for the rollers, but good thinking on the tracking! might get it checked for the sake of 20 or so
FishWick 21
If it drives straight on the road you should be OK mate. If there is severe pulling to the left or right, then yeah, you'll need to get that sorted :-)I would clear the cam and knock VAG COM codes and see if they come back.If they do come back, Vince could end up spending a fair chunk of your dyno time investigating that instead of mapping. breeza18 0
ive got a week to sort it and keep my eye on things, would rather he spend his time mapping it! cant wait to get it back from the remap will be a different animal i hope
breeza18 0
ok so ive just been out andf its thrown fault 0515 cam sensor again, when i timed the cams up i marked the chains and sprokets in 2 places on ech so i couldnt get them wrong, is there a chance the upper chain has moved a place on the bottom (middle) sproket? the cam sensor was new 2 months ago so dought its that.
FishWick 21
Is that a code reader or VAG-COM you have? Need to know the translation, i.e. Short to ground, Short to B+ or implausible signal etc etc.You wouldn't get a cam sensor fault usually from mistimed cams. You might get some lambda control adaptation errors though. It is very easy to skip a tooth when refitting the chains, done it myself a couple of times.
breeza18 0
right ive checked timing and its spot on, but i can see some damage to the cam sensor pick up thats bolted to the cam sprocket, its chipped a bit of plastic off it exsposing the metal frame underneath, could this fool the camsensor into reading wrong? breeza18 0
some progress maybe! i think my cam sensor pick up/magnet has moved when removing the cam bolt, check these two pictures out, mine is the bottom picturethese pictures are both at TDC so you can see mine has moved 10/15 degrees anticlockwise which would throw the cam sensor out? any thoughts on this or ideas?? FishWick 21
Ah yes, the trigger wheel. I forgot about that. They are prone to cracking like that and it's always wise to replace them when working on the cams, they're about a tenner from the dealer.I'm afraid you'll have to replace it mate :-(
breeza18 0
ordered 1 today kev, £9 looks like its moved and is whats causing my problem, pick up the parts tomorrow with a new bolt hopefully will sort it
FishWick 21
Yeah, moved quite a lot by the look of it. That would have wasted a couple of hours on the dyno so it's a good job you started this thread and did some pre-dyno checks!
breeza18 0
yeah suppose it was a good idea now i found this out!! also noticed my auxillary water pump was leakin around the bottom so had a look and it broke off in my hand!! the impellor was solid and wouldnt turn, ive just put a copper elbow in for the time being untill i can find a replacement!
FishWick 21
Shame it broke apart as they come apart and can be sealed up again usually, but they are more hassle than they're worth. I took mine off a long time ago.
breeza18 0
the impellor was a mess with bits missing aswell, cant have helped flow very much!? have you had yours bypassed for a while kev? been reading up and most say its there for a reason and is needed others report no faults running with out? if yours manages with your boost my should be fine with only a remap and cams lol
spadam 7
I'm also debating weather I shud bypass my aux waterpump but will be supercharged soon.
breeza18 0
would be interesting to know whos running with and without and what engine specs they have?
spadam 7
Yea I've heard mixed things. soneone said removing it can warp the head and cause headgasket faliure. But if kev hasnt got one on his beast you obviously don't need one.
FishWick 21
I've not used an aux pump for 2 years now. Mine's a daily and I've not noticed any issues :-)I can see why VW fit them but it's such a crap, ineffective little pump it's barely worth it. I did consider using a much bigger pump, but VW needed to consider battery life if it runs on for 5 mins after shutdown, but us modders don't generally care about things like that :-)
breeza18 0
thats good to know! il leave mine without then as my heaters seem to be blowing alot warmer now aswell, changed the cams sensor pickup and all is good now thanks for all the help! cant wait for friday at stealth now
FishWick 21
Cool! What time are you going to be at Stealth? I'll be there as well in the afternoon :-)

breeza18 0
Kev im in at 9am i wanted the afternoon but im guessing your busy on the rollers around then Vince reckons a few hours to map mine, but he's done 100's before so im guessing might be a bit quicker. vr6pete, whens the rr day? prices etc? im guessing theres a thread somewhere?
