cornishvr6 52
Hi guys, Im considering sorting my amps and sub out in the boot and was hoping for some ideas on where to locate if anyone has any pics of theres completed?i currently have a 12" sub in a stupidly large box and two amps which are mounted onto the back of the rear seats, all were in the car when i purchased, i believe one is running the focal components and the other for the sub..I was thinking of the sub in one side and the amps in the other side of the boot, using mdf and covering in black cloth or leather.so any pics or ideas would be a great help

cornishvr6 52
Thanks for those, might give it a go in the next couple of days, looking at mdf sheets i want to try keep the weight down but its available in 6,9,12,18mm thickness,do you think the 6mm will be too flimsy for the weight of the sub and amps also would thicker be better for the sound quality?thanks
Ben Seabrook 4
6mm is fairly sturdy tbh mate and think that would be plenty

HAMMER_VR6 0
6mm would perform like Rolf Harris wobble board.Definately not strong enough for a sub.If you were to buy a sub enclosure it would be made of at least 12mm
Ben Seabrook 4
^^^ ha ha well there you go then thicker needed for sub boxes
cornishvr6 52
lol, i may opt for 6mm on the amp side then and 12mm for the sub

cornishvr6 52
is there any sound difference between mounting a sub in the boot floor and having it in a box to either side of the car?im in two minds now, keep changing my ideas, any help/advice is appreciated
editionmatt 1
i Found the sound just the same really. Obviously when i put it in the floor i made a custom box for it but it was a bit of a pain as the spare wheel well isnt centre so the box wasnt as big as i had liked. i just compensated with stuffing the box with the contents of a few pillows. Was fine for me though
cornishvr6 52
mmmh im confused, might just make a start and see how i get on, Think i will stick to the sub on one side and my amps on the other for now, would i need to dynamat the sub side of the car behind the box? michael5556 247
When I did mine, I cut out the spare wheel holder, sound proofed where the spare wheel sits and made the sub sit over that area with the rest of the boot covered in carpeted wood, raised it using some rubber mounts so it wouldn't vibrate too much either
